The Last Of Us Season 2 Gets A Narrower Release Window

Warner Bros. Discovery has narrowed the release window for when The Last of Us Season 2 is coming. During a recent Wells Fargo event, WBD global streaming boss JB Perrette said Season 2 is on track for release during Q2 2025, which means it’ll arrive sometime in the April-June period.

Previously, The Last of Us Season 2 was set for release in Spring 2025. In the US, Spring 2025 runs March 20-June 20, but the Q2 period runs April 1, 2025-June 30, 2025.

Perrette listed off the release window for The Last of Us Season 2 as part of a wider discussion of what HBO has coming up, according to Deadline. The company’s first big release of 2025 is The White Lotus Season 3 in February, then The Last of Us Season 2, then the next Game of Thrones show, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

Before this, HBO boss Casey Bloys told Deadline he expects The Last of Us Season 2 to be “in the Emmy window,” which means at least six episodes of the season must be released by the assumed cutoff date of May 31, 2025 for consideration at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards.

The sophomore season of the series will see a time jump, but Ellie won’t be recast. Additionally, The Last of Us Season 2 won’t cover all of the events from the video-game sequel, so be prepared for a third season, and possibly more. That said, the show’s writer, Craig Mazin, has stated before that The Last of Us won’t overstay its welcome.

Along with Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, The Last of Us Season 2 will star Kaitlyn Dever in the prominent role of Abby. Other new cast members include Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Catherine O’Hara in an unspecified role.

As for the game series, Naughty Dog has strongly hinted that it’s making The Last of Us Part III. The studio has at least one other game in the works, and it could be a new IP.
