Since its release in October, the debate has raged around Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket’s most-meta deck.
Starmie ex, Pikachu ex, and Mewtwo ex are the most common decks you’ll run into in the game’s competitive battles, and research looking at around 30,000 battle results confirmed that these should be the best decks in the game.

However, as things continually shift and evolve, a new piece of research has found that, actually, a deck involving Moltres ex, Charizard ex, and Arcanine ex may now stake claim to the throne.
This new research was completed by Reddit user -OA-. They were the person who previously analyzed the 30,000 results and also found the combination for the perfect Mewtwo ex deck.
Their data suggests that a deck involving the three Fire-type Pokemon previously mentioned could have a win rate of up to around 55 percent against other meta decks. This compares to around 54 percent for the Pikachu ex deck and 52 percent for Mewtwo ex.
A deck involving Moltres ex, Charizard ex, and Arcanine ex could have a win rate of up to around 55 percent against other meta decks.
The Charizard, Arcanine, and Moltres ex deck does have the largest variance of all three, winning between 50-55 percent of its matches, versus Pikachu’s 52-54 percent and Mewtwo’s 50-52 percent, but peaking at 55 percent shows it’s a force to be reckoned with.
One of the boons of this deck, according to -OA-‘s research, is that it is super successful against Pikachu ex decks, beating them more than it loses. However, it does struggle a little more against the Mewtwo ex and Gardevoir deck.
If you’re looking for success with this deck, -OA- recommends the following cards:
- Charmander x2
- Charmeleon x2
- Charizard ex x2
- Moltres ex x2
- Growlithe x1
- Arcanine ex x2
- Professor’s Research x2
- Sabrina x1
- X Speed x2
- Poke Ball x2
- Potion x1
- Red Card x1
