Recently, Overwatch 2 revealed a series of upcoming gameplay experiments, including a handful of 6v6 playtests coming in Season 14. The first of these Overwatch 2 Quick Play: Hacked game modes, called Limit 2, began on November 6, and ran for a couple of days.

Black Widow’s Marvel Rivals gameplay has been revealed and it looks very similar to one of Overwatch’s most dangerous damage heroes.

Now, Overwatch 2 has begun another Quick Play: Hacked experiment as a sendoff for Season 13. From now until the start of Season 14 on December 10, fans can queue into Quick Play Hacked: Kingmaker via a new Unranked card. The game mode works similarly to Overwatch 2‘s previous Quick Play Hacked: Limit 2 – each team can flex composition with up to two players in a single role, allowing them to exchange a support or damage hero for a second tank. However, the hero in the solo role gains a powerful buff that will help them pull their weight without a second character to back them up.

While in the solo role, damage and support heroes get extra health and reduction to their cooldowns, with the former getting attack and reload speed, and the latter gaining an increase to their healing done. The Kingmaker bonus for tanks is the normal passive granted to the role in typical Overwatch 2 gameplay, so playing this solo role should feel familiar to most fans.

Interestingly enough, the game mode also features a new quality-of-life feature in the form of an optional health bar overlay. Similar to the UI elements from Overwatch 2‘s PvE missions, players can use this toggle to have their team’s status and current health displayed in the bottom left corner of the screen, and can customize how it appears for each role. The feature is only present in Quick Play Hacked: Kingmaker, but Blizzard could possibly add it to more game modes in the future.

Season 14 officially launches on December 10, permanently adding Hazard, the aggressive and disruptive new Overwatch 2 tank hero, to the game’s roster. Around a week later, the first 6v6 test, Min 1, Max 3, is planned to take place, with a classic 2-2-2 team composition test planned for later on in the season. With these game modes hot on the heels of Overwatch: Classic and Junkenstein’s Laboratory, there seems to be no end to Overwatch 2’s gameplay experiments in the near future.

Overwatch 2: Quick Play Hacked – December 4, 2024 Patch Notes

Kingmaker

In Quick Play Hacked – Kingmaker, you’ll crown your team’s champion in a new twist from the previous Limit 2 experiment where the lone player in their role earns bonus powers to dominate the match. Experiment with new compositions while leveraging the Kingmaker system to give every role a chance to shine, even in unconventional lineups. You’ll want to be strategic in your role picks, as roles are locked at the start of each round, but switching roles mid-match can unlock game-changing potential.

  • Kingmaker will be in its own playable mode outside of Role Queue and Open Queue in the Unranked menu.
  • Players select roles in a first-come, first-served setup, with only two players per role (Tank, Damage, Support).
  • Once a role is capped at two players, it’s locked for the remaining team members.
  • You cannot switch roles during gameplay, but can switch between rounds for the Control game mode.
  • Whichever role has only a single hero, that hero will receive an extra bonus effect and will be to all players in the match.
  • This experimental mode runs through December 9.
