The open beta for Monster Hunter Wilds gave us a glimpse of what many already consider a Game of the Year nominee for 2025. It included a beautiful open world, brand new monsters, our favorite weapons, and everything else we love about the Monster Hunter series. Well, almost everything. While it was sorely missing in the beta, the devs have promised that hitstop will feature more predominantly in the final game.

Monster Hunter Wilds Is Going To Be The Biggest Game Of 2025
Capcom’s blockbuster is already attracted hundreds of thousands of people. And that’s just the open beta…
As is the purpose of a beta test, fans pointed out all the things that they thought needed to be tweaked in the final build. Along with hitstop, some weapons also required a bit more balancing, but one of the major complaints was about how monsters kept running away so often.
Why Are You Running?
Monsters running away after taking a lot of damage has always been a part of Monster Hunter. So has following them to their lair, planting explosives and landing the biggest possible hit. However, it seemed like they were doing it too often in the Monster Hunter Wilds beta, breaking the flow of a fun hunt. However, director Yuya Tokuda explained to VGC that this was a bug.
“The fact is that the Open Beta test was an earlier version that actually had some bugs in it, and one of them was that the monsters were moving more often than intended,” explained Tokuda. “It wasn’t actually a design intention to have them be so rapidly moving, it was just that every X amount of seconds they just were moving on, and it wasn’t something we were planning for.”
He went on to say that this bug has already been fixed, and the devs are still refining the frequency of when a Monster decides to run away. At launch, this feature will not be so repetitive, and will feel more like it does in previous titles.
Tokuda also told us that four of the game’s weapons which have received a lot of complaints will undergo some big changes. “Some weapons will also have a big change. Insect Glaive, Switch Axe, Lance, Sword & Shield are the weapons that will have big changes when we have the final product version,” he revealed. “So we hope everybody looks forward to that.”
The unbridled force of nature runs wild and relentless, with environments transforming drastically from one moment to the next. This is a story of monsters and humans and their struggles to live in harmony in a world of duality.
