Farming is one of the main activities players can focus on in Luma Island. If you went with Cook, Brewer, or Fisherman as your starter profession, you’ll have to constantly grow and harvest different crops to complete the quest objectives. Apart from completing quests, farming can also be an excellent source of Coins, allowing you to cook various meals that sell for a lot of profit in the game.
While farming in the early game can seem pretty straightforward, as you progress through the game, unlocking different biomes, things start to get tricky. In this guide, we’ll explain how farming works in Luma Island to help you get the most out of your Farm.

How to Farm on Luma Island
To get started with Farming in Luma Island, you’ll need the Hoe and the Watering Can. You’ll also need Seeds that you can plant on the ground. You’ll find most of them in the Town Farmer’s Shop near the Anvil, where you upgrade your tools.
The five main steps to farming are:
- Tilling the ground to prepare them using the Hoe.
- Planting the Seeds.
- Watering the Seeds
- Waiting for the Seeds to grow into Crops
- Harvesting the Crops.
However, crop management becomes essential as you plant different crops on your Farm. Weeds can start to grow on your crops or even the tilled soil that you’ll have to remove. You’ll also have to water your plants at least once every day to make sure they’re healthy.
You won’t have to water your crops if it’s raining outside.
For some seeds, you’ll also have to use Fertilizers (Crafted from the Kiln) to make sure they grow properly. You can craft three types of Fertilizers in Luma Island, and the type of Fertilizer you’ll need depends on the seed you’re growing.
The following table will give you an idea of the different seed types and the Fertilizers you’ll need to grow them.

Some of the late-game crops in the game also require a Beehive next to them. To build a Beehive, you must buy the Blueprint from the Balthazar’s Shop. It requires the following resources:
- 10x Mountain Sap
- 10x Mountain Planks
- 10x Mountain Flowers
- 1 Queen Bee
You can also catch Queen Bee using a Bug Net if they spawn around you. You’ll know one is nearby when you hear the buzzing sound of the bee.
Growing each type of seed also unlocks an Everlasting variant of the Seed in the Mushroom Shop. If you’ve got Everlasting Seeds, you won’t have to buy a new set of seeds after harvesting them. A new crop will grow out of them once harvested.

Luma Island provides over 90 achievements for players to get, with some being a little more complicated than others. Here’s how to unlock them all.
Managing Crops in Luma Island
While the basic steps to farming are simple enough to understand, managing your crops can become pretty difficult as you start growing and expanding your Farm. Running to each of your farming plots to remove weeds or kill beetles can become exhausting. And let’s not forget the fact that you’ll also have to water each of your plants every single day.
Thankfully, Luma Island gives you plenty of tools to automate crop management. You can create a fully automated farm in the game by building Sprinklers around your garden plots and keeping different animals. All you need to do is harvest your crops or plant new seeds.
Building Sprinklers
You can buy the Blueprint for Sprinklers from Balthazar’s Shop in the Town. It comes in two sizes:
- Small Sprinklers: Covers 7×7 farming plot
- Large Sprinklers: Covers 9×9 farming plot
Sprinklers will automatically water your plants each morning. You can also insert Fertilizers into them, and they’ll use the Fertilizers to make sure your crops get all the attention they need to thrive.
Buying Farm Animals
While you can buy pets from the Pet Shop after repairs, Farm Animals are bought from the Farmer’s Shop. There are different types of animals that you can buy that automate various tasks on your Farm. Some Farm Animals also drop resources if you feed them Hay once a day. Here are all the Farm Animals in Luma Island and what they do for you.

After buying the Farm Animal, you’ll also have to build the appropriate house or pen. Interact with the specific house to assign Farm Animals. The blueprints are in Balthazar’s Shop.
Build a fence around your plot to keep your Farm Animals confined to the area.
Watching your Farm blossom is one of the most rewarding feelings in Luma Island. While setting it all up takes a lot of time and resources, it’s often worth the effort since it also lets you make a lot of money in the game.
