Key Takeaways
- The visuals on two of Viktor’s skins have been updated following community backlash.
- A large portion of the Viktor-specific community wants Riot to drop the changes, a so-called “revert-lution.”
- Viktor’s VGU is set to arrive on December 11.
The champion Viktor from League of Legends is set to receive a visual and gameplay update (VGU) on December 11. The champion’s updated visuals are intended to bring Viktor closer to how he appears in the animated series Arcane, but some aspects of his new visuals attracted significant criticism from players, especially Viktor mains.
Viktor has been changed from a walking, robust “general” type into a lithe figure that floats above the ground. Although Viktor’s visual effects are undoubtedly better, some of his character models are widely considered to be downgrades. Two skins considered particularly jarring by the community are Deathsworn Viktor and Creator Viktor, both of which have now been further updated by Riot in response to criticism.
Viktor Mains Aren’t Happy
As highlighted by Giaccone in a Reddit post about the changes, Riot has updated the two aforementioned skins on the Public Beta Environment (PBE) to bring them more in line with their original looks. Deathsworn Viktor has re-gained his skull mask and additional detailing on his body, while Creator Viktor has been darkened with additional red details, effects which combine to make him look more menacing.
If I had to guess, these changes won’t be enough to satiate the community who have been calling for a “revert-lution,” a movement dedicated to keeping Viktor’s original look intact. Many of the recent posts on the Viktor Mains subreddit have been dedicated to critiquing the new visual changes, which appear to be a non-starter with Viktor mains and one-tricks.
It’s interesting that Riot is calling this update a VGU as opposed to an ASU (art and sustainability update) as the changes to Viktor’s mechanics are minor. All of his abilities are being tweaked slightly, but the only notable change is that his ultimate (Gravity Storm) will now have a scaling mechanic.
If an enemy damaged by the storm dies (i.e. a takedown), the storm’s radius will increase by 40 per cent and its duration will extend by three seconds permanently. This effect can be stacked up to 6 times.
Viktor’s VGU is set to launch with Patch 14.24 on December 11. As things stand, Riot is not willing to fully reverse the upcoming visual changes.
