How to Roll Land in Fortnite

Since the first trailer was released, the new roll land in Fortnite mechanic has seemed to be a game changer. It doesn’t quite cancel out your fall damage, but it can make a few improvements. If you make the most out of these new parkour options, you could go much further in Fortnite this season.

Fortnite Chapter 6 has introduced a ton of new movement mechanics. One that looked impactful initially was the roll land in Fortnite, although now it’s active it is proving a bit more circumstantial. These new parkour options do really open things up though, especially from Zero Build players in Chapter 6. While it seems a bit innocuous on the surface, the roll land actually has some really useful features in Fortnite.

Once you know how to consistently roll land in Fortnite, you can evade fire, increase stamina, and soften fall damage. This is how it works and how you can make the most out of it:

Out of the new movement mechanics in Fortnite Chapter 6, the inputs for them are all quite similar. It’s the same button as doing a wall scramble in Fortnite. It comes down to the timing to decide which one it is you’re using. The roll land in Fortnite is a bit more circumstantial. It’ll only activate if you’re using it at the right time. This is how you can do it:

  • Sprint jump
  • As you land, press or hold the jump button once again
  • If timed right, you’ll roll as you land

If you can pull this off, you’ll get a slight regeneration to your stamina meter, along with a reduction in all damage that you take. Since we now jump higher out of sprint jumps and it runs through stamina, this could make a big difference to how you get around. There’s some other utility in the roll land in Fortnite though.

Get the Most Out of Rolling

Roll landing is a particularly fun new mechanic added. Unlike the wall jumps in the same update, you can’t chain it to reach new high places. However, it’s still going to have its uses. The roll landing will be especially useful in Zero Builds, where it could significantly protect you.

The roll landing can be a major help in escaping. Not only does it mix up your movements, but regenerating stamina will help you get further. The roll animation itself will also hide your head a bit, making it significantly harder for players to beam you. Even with the rough ARs in the current Fortnite weapons hitting players so hard.
