There are few characters as infamous as Arthas Menethil in the Warcraft series. He was once a prince of Lordaeron, a noble Paladin who sought to protect his people from any danger. Ultimately, his desire to protect others was his undoing when he found Frostmourne and became the Lich King at the end of Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne.
After years of inactivity, the Lich King woke up, which was the catalyst for the events of the second expansion, Wrath of the Lich King. This expansion would lead to a final confrontation with the notorious ruler of the Scourge. With such an epic end to a character’s story, it only made sense that there would be some unique cosmetics for players who managed to overcome the terrible powers of the Lich King. As far as mounts in raids go, there was no better option than Arthas’ beloved steed in life and in death: Invincible. If you want to add the mount of the notorious Lich King himself, here is how you can obtain Invincible in World of Warcraft.

How to Get Invincible in World of Warcraft
Invincible is a rare drop from Icecrown Citadel, a raid located in Icecrown, Northrend. Icecrown Citadel is the largest structure in all of the zone, so it is very difficult to miss. Invincible only drops on Heroic 25-Man difficulty, so make sure you have that set up before entering the raid. The drop rate for Invincible is estimated to be less than one percent.
Some players will get lucky and get the mount within a few attempts, while others may not see it even after running the raid for years. Icecrown Citadel can be farmed once per week per character. You can have several characters parked outside the raid and run it several times a week, but this is more likely to give you burnout than a mount.
Icecrown Citadel Walkthrough
For players unfamiliar with the raid, here are a few things to keep in mind. At Level 50+ you can easily solo Icecrown Citadel even on Heroic 25-Man. There is even a zone wide buff that increases your damage and healing, making it even easier. Just make sure your character is not using Chromie Time, as you will be unable to enter the raid.
The first two bosses are not noteworthy, but you will need to handle the third encounter a very specific way to save time. When you talk to Muradin (Alliance) or Saurfang (Horde), quickly run to one of the cannons and right click on it to “enter” it. Start spamming ‘1’ as quickly as possible to build up Heat, but do not allow it to go above 97. If it reaches 100, the cannon overheats and cannot be used for awhile.
As the opposing faction’s gunship gets within range, hit ‘2’ to do a large amount of damage. If you are around 90 Heat, this will be enough to completely deplete the health of the opposing ship before the encounter begins. Typically, what would happen is that the cannons would get frozen, and you’d have to board the opposing ship to kill the battle mage. But by hitting the ship before the encounter starts, you can do enough damage that it ends just as the fight begins, and you can skip that step entirely.
After hitting the ship, make sure you get off the cannon just before the encounter starts, as the game will occasionally glitch and send you falling to your death.
From here, continue the raid as normal. In Plagueworks, there are two valves you will need to activate to reach Professor Putricide. The first is in the room with Rotface, and the second is in the same room as Festergut, the other two bosses of the Plagueworks.
In the Frost Wing, you will encounter a boss called Valithria Dreamwalker. If you do not have any healing abilities, it is best to skip this encounter. The door is open behind her, so you can just proceed onward to Sindragosa. Alternatively, if you have any healing spells, you can just begin the encounter, heal the boss up to full health, and you win.
When you’ve cleared all three wings in the upper reaches of Icecrown Citadel, the teleporter in the middle of the ice pillar will activate. Standing on it will take you directly to the Lich King himself. Unlike other bosses in Icecrown Citadel, you can’t just one shot the boss as soon as the encounter starts.
When the Lich King falls below 10% health, he will cast Fury of Frostmourne. Prior to becoming legacy content, this ability would instantly kill all players. Despite looking like a wipe, reaching this part of the encounter basically means you have won. The Lich King cannot be killed until the subsequent RP sequence is finished. When you hear Terenas Menethil II call out: “Rise up, champions of the Light!”, you are clear to deliver the final blow. If you are lucky, you will see Invincible’s Reins as an item you can loot from the Lich King.
Does Invincible Show Up on the Black Market Auction House?
Rare mounts and other cosmetics show up all the time at the Black Market Auction House, and that includes Invincible. Bear in mind, however, that this is a highly desired mount, which means the auction for it will get expensive really fast. As an example, a recent auction for Invincible closed at over 7,000,000 gold. While you can get Invincible through the Black Market Auction House, it will be a very expensive auction if you manage to have the winning bid.
