Genshin Impact Leak Reveals Major Citlali Changes

Genshin Impact Leak Reveals Major Citlali Changes

Key Takeaways

  • Citlali faces major nerfs in Genshin Impact Version 5.3, shifting power to her higher Constellations.
  • Players may need to spend up to $1,500 for the C4 and Signature Weapon for 5-Star characters.
  • Power moving to Constellations may make new characters inaccessible, costing players a significant amount.

The latest build for Version 5.3 has brought major changes to the upcoming Genshin Impact characters, with Citlali arguably bearing the brunt of the nerfs. While Citlali has quickly risen to become one of the most popular characters in Genshin Impact, that level of popularity comes with some notable drawbacks. Expectations for her ability kit are high, and being a 5-Star Shield Support arguably doubles those expectations. Zhongli and Baizhu are a tall standard to live up to, but there is a chance that Citlali can pull it off.

Citlali’s ability kit in Genshin Impact is designed with two main principles in mind: to provide decent off-field Cryo Damage, and to apply elemental shred for Melt and Freeze teams. As a Shield Support, Citlali also brings interruption resistance to the table, but in terms of her defensive value, she is easily outclassed by Zhongli. On paper, this is a reasonable drawback, as Citlali can carry the new Artifact Set from Natlan, which gives additional damage bonuses for Melt teams.

The latest beta build of Version 5.3 comes with major changes to Mavuika’s ability kit in Genshin Impact, and not all of them are positive.

However, according to HomDGCat, Citlali’s ability kit has undergone some major nerfs in the latest beta build for Genshin Impact. The datamined information reveals that her personal damage is essentially halved, as most of her offensive value came from her Elemental Burst setting up a huge Melt detonation. Rather controversially, the change can be reverted via Citlali’s fourth Constellation, which now provides 50% more Elemental Mastery to compensate for her baseline kit being nerfed. Considering that Mavuika in Genshin Impact has also been given a buff to her fourth Constellation, it would seem that HoYoverse is wondering if C4 can become the new stopping point.

Genshin Impact: Citlali Changes (V3)

Ascension Passives

  • Itzpapalotl’s Star Garments
    • During the Elemental Skill Dawnfrost Darkstar, Itzpapa’s Frostfall Storm DMG is increased by 90% of Citlali’s Elemental Mastery. During the Elemental Burst Edict of Entwined Splendor, Ice Storm DMG is increased by 1200% (down from 2400%) of Citlali’s Elemental Mastery.
    • In addition, when nearby party members trigger Nightsoul Bursts, Citlali regains 4 Nightsoul points.
  • Songs of Profound Mystery
    • While in an area with Phlogiston Mechanics within Natlan, triggering “Nightsoul Burst” restores 20 Phlogiston.
      • Now restricted to Natlan.
    • This cannot take effect in Domains, Trounce Domains, or the Spiral Abyss.

Constellations

  • Heart Devourer’s Travail (C4)
    • While the Elemental Skill Dawnfrost Darkstar is active, when Itzpapa’s Frostfall Storm hits opponents, an additional Obsidian Spiritvessel Skull is summoned.
    • When a Spiritvessel Skull summoned this way explodes, it deals 1800% (up from 1200%) of Citlali’s Elemental Mastery as Nightsoul-aligned Cryo DMG and restores 16 Nightsoul points to Citlali.
    • This effect can trigger once every 8s. This DMG is not considered Elemental Burst DMG.
  • Teoiztac’s Secret Pact (C6)
    • The Itzpapa summoned by Elemental Skill Dawnfrost Darkstar will always be in the Opal Fire state, and when Nightsoul points are exhausted, this state will not end.
    • Additionally, when Dawnfrost Darkstar is used, Itzpapa will consume all Nightsoul points, and while it is on the field, it will continuously consume Nightsoul points, granting Citlali 1 stack for every 1 Nightsoul Point consumed.
    • Citlali can have a maximum of 40 stacks. Each stack causes all party members to receive 1.5% Pyro and Hydro DMG Bonuses, and increases Citlali’s DMG dealt by 2.5%.
      • The Cryo DMG Bonus is removed.
    • When Itzpapa leaves the field or Citlali casts her Elemental Skill again, the stacks are reset.

An undocumented change to Citlali in Genshin Impact implies that players will be immune to Freeze while her shield is active. Rather surprisingly, her sixth Constellation has also been changed to remove all support for the Cryo element, opting instead to buff Citlali’s personal damage. Considering the dire state of Cryo characters in Genshin Impact, this action implies that the developers aren’t willing to address the situation until at least Version 6.0 in September 2025. Given how few Genshin Impact players go for C6, it’s ultimately a change that won’t affect too many people.

Therein lies the crux of the problem: by shifting power away from Mavuika and Citlali’s baseline kits, and moving it onto their higher Constellations, it makes the new characters inaccessible to the vast majority of players. Assuming no Intertwined Wishes are saved for the endeavor, getting a C4 and Signature Weapon for a 5-Star character can easily cost up to $1,500. To guarantee this outcome, players need to save 1,040 Intertwined Wishes, an incredibly hard feat to accomplish when the average Primogem count in Genshin Impact hovers around 80 pulls per update. While there is still a chance that Mavuika and Citlali will see changes in the next two builds of Version 5.3, the current round of changes haven’t been well-received by the community.
