Dragon Age The Veilguard’s biggest time-sink is now a free, standalone game

It’s almost customary to spend way too much time in an RPG’s character creator at the start of a new playthrough, tinkering with chin protrusion angles, freckle density, and where you want to place that badass battle scar. Dragon Age The Veilguard serves up one of the most comprehensive character creators I’ve ever seen, and it’s one of the game’s biggest plus points. Now, in celebration of Dragon Age Day, BioWare is making it a free, standalone experience that anyone can download and try.

At launch, there were plenty of viral clips of Dragon Age The Veilguard players spending ungodly amounts of time with the character creator, aiming to mirror their own appearance as accurately as possible, making eccentric-looking Rooks, or simply messing around with all the tools on offer. Clearly recognizing both its popularity and its potential to lure new players into the RPG, BioWare is now releasing the Dragon Age The Veilguard’s character creator for free on all platforms that the game is currently available on.

If you do decide to download it, create a striking Rook, and fancy seeing them in action, you’ll be able to transfer your character over to the full version of the game if and when you buy it – just make sure it’s on the same platform that you downloaded the character creator on, and you’re good to go. BioWare also confirms there’s no time limit or gating for the character creator.

Alongside the announcement of the character creator becoming a free PC game of its own, BioWare is giving all Veilguard players a real in-game treat. “Starting today, you will be able to get the iconic armor, body paint, and nose blood smear of Dragon Age II’s protagonist, Hawke, for your Rook,” it says. “These cosmetics will be permanently available and can be found in the Lighthouse after downloading Patch 4 and completing the mission ‘The Singing Blade.’”

Patch 4, by the way, is the new update hitting Dragon Age The Veilguard that adds a few new features, such as a photo mode tool that lets you take snaps of its beautiful cutscenes, and delivers more optimizations and bug fixes for the game.

Dragon Age The Veilguard’s free character creator will be up on all platforms later today, December 4.
