When is the next Destiny 2 episode? Our band of Guardians has been through a lot recently; we finally faced off against the Witness and, eventually, took it down for good. The future of Destiny is nowhere near the end though, as we’ve got three episodes this year to tackle, and we’re heading to Nessus first.
In an attempt to gear up for the new Destiny 2 episode, we have guides on the best Destiny 2 classes and the best Destiny 2 builds, as well as a specific one for Destiny 2 prismatic builds, so no matter what you do, you’ll crush it. With a new episode comes new activities, a lovely chunk of story, and new weapons we can play with. Here’s everything we know about what comes next during The Final Shape.
Destiny 2 new episode release date
The next episode of Destiny 2, Heresy, will be released on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. This is confirmed on the official web page for the current episode, Revenant.
You can also gauge the launch date from the in-game countdown, though Bungie has gracefully made it nice and simple for us here.
Episodes are a movement away from the traditional Destiny 2 seasonal format. They last longer, and are more integral to the expansion’s storyline. Previously, seasons could feel a little disjointed, and hard to keep up with if you missed a week or two. With the episodic format, Bungie has hoped to reinvigorate its offerings. However, it recently announced that Episodes would be making way for a new content delivery approach in 2025.
Destiny 2 Revenant story
A new type of undead Scorn has emerged, and for some reason, it’s targeting the Eliksni. As it transpires, Fikrul is back, and he’s juiced up thanks to the power of an Echo that’s fallen into his possession. Holed up in an Awoken watchtower, it’s time to get hunting. As Fikrul had been created by Uldren Sov, Crow feels he has a personal stake in the matter, so has gotten himself involved.
Revenant has dark fantasy themes and reintroduces Guardians to slaying vampires with a touch of Splicer thrown in. As the player, you take on the role of the Slayer Baron. We learn that in Eliksni culture, this role was reserved for the most renowned of monster hunters. Bungie says it took “a hard lean into the vampire hunter fantasy” and the imagery certainly reflects that.
Revenant also introduces us to a tonic-crafting system. Combat potions directly boost your artifact while loot potions give you agency over the rewards you’re chasing.
Destiny 2 Revenant activity
The first act of Destiny 2 Revenant introduced a seasonal twist on the Onslaught game mode – Onslaught Salvation. The Revenant-exclusive iteration brought with it three new maps: Widow’s Court, Eventide Ruins, and Kell’s Grave. What’s more, new defensive upgrades were added, including airstrikes and rideable turrets.
Act two introduced the Tomb of Elders, a reimagined version of the fan-favorite Prison of Elders activity from Destiny 1. Featuring new and returning bosses, alongside mechanics pulled from D2 activities like Riven’s Lair and new enemy factions, it is a treat for players new and old.
Additionally, there’s a new dungeon called ‘Vesper’s Host.’ Clearing the dungeon yields the chance to drop the Ice Breaker Exotic sniper rifle – a classic weapon from the original Destiny.
Destiny 2 Revenant armor
The Destiny 2 Revenant seasonal armor set for Revenant is ‘Shadestalker.’ This Bloodborne-esque gear can be snagged from the seasonal activity. Pictured above are the spiky, Heretical seasonal ornaments, which can be accrued from the battle pass. We’re huge fans of the spooky theming for Revenant, so needless to say we’re going to be on the hunt for new glamor.
Destiny 2 Echoes story
Echoes saw us heading to Nessus to deal with a direct result of the mammoth battle with the Witness that was the finale to The Final Shape’s campaign. All of the Darkness that was holding this big bad enemy together exploded upon its defeat, colliding with the Light that was manifesting inside the Witness. That collision created an explosion and the Echoes were spread across the game’s Sol system.
The first one we found landed on Nessus, and transformed the planet. It changed the entire thing into something it’s not supposed to be. The planet’s Vex inhabitants were acting a bit strangely, so we worked alongside Failsafe to deal with the threat.
During Act 1 of Echoes, we saw the consequences of where we killed the Witness and how spilling The Witness’ memories across the Sol system – also known as Echoes. One launched towards Nessus, which we followed to investigate. We reunited with Failsafe, who mentored us through the episode. At the end of the act, we realize that this wasn’t quite the lighthearted adventure we expected. Saint had been taken by the Conductor, who was interrogating him to discover whether he was an imposter or not.
In Act 2, we uncovered more information about the Conductor, while fighting through three new Battlegrounds. The Conductor’s been stockpiling Radiolaria – millions of particles with individual consciousness – building an advanced Vex army in the process. After re-entering the Infinite Forest to retrieve the memory of the other, deceased Saint-14, we are reintroduced to former Future War Cult leader Lakshmi-2. As it transpires, Lakshmi-2 was reconstructed to host the consciousness of Maya Sundaresh, the Conductor.
As we’d come to learn, Maya wanted to use Radiolaria and the Vex to bring the entire solar system under her command. This was so she could search for the consciousness of her late wife, Chioma Esi, who died hundreds of years ago, and bring humanity into a new Golden Age. After a tense showdown on Nessus in Act 3, Maya manages to escape with the Echo.
Destiny 2 Heresy story
Heresy will deal with the Hive Pantheon and approaching new, interesting revelations. “We want to take the Hive Pantheon and shake up the snowglobe,” says Bungie. It wants to test the known relationships of the Hive as we know it. A new eldritch force will shake things up and take us back to the Dreadnaught – a huge Hive ship that is said to be getting a new purpose in Heresy.
The weapons are peeling back to reveal a new, spooky, bony front. There are two armor sets confirmed for Heresy. One is very aligned with Eris Morn, and the other is a Dreadnaught navigator-themed set. If you were a fan of The Coil you’ll be a fan of the Dreadnaught’s activity.
“We haven’t seen anything like this in Destiny before,” says Bungie. Well neither have we, and we’re excited about it.
That’s everything we know about the new Destiny 2 episodes so far. If you’re still playing catch up in The Final Shape, we have the Salvation’s Edge raid guide, as well as a guide on how to get the Khvostov Exotic, because it’s a little tricker than we were expecting!
