Black Ops 6’s Deer Head Easter Egg Explained

Black Ops 6's Deer Head Easter Egg Explained

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has only been out for a little over a month, but players are beginning to discover some Easter eggs hidden within the game’s maps. In Zombies’ Liberty Falls map, some Black Ops 6 players believe they have stumbled upon an Easter egg involving the various deer heads that can be found in the map.

Originally posted to Reddit by TheDwarvesCarst, the deer head Easter egg in Black Ops 6 quickly gained traction among other players on the platform, igniting discussion and theories about how to solve the possible puzzle. According to TheDwarvesCarst, playing in Directed Mode makes the deer heads disappear, signaling an undiscovered Easter egg. Directed Mode disables all side Easter eggs, which led to such a conclusion in the first place. After sharing their findings on the official CODZombies subreddit, fellow Black Ops 6 players quickly joined TheDwarvesCarst in discussing what the deer heads could mean.

The first mid-season refresh for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has been unveiled by developer Treyarch and will bring a flurry of holiday-themed modes.

Deer Heads in Liberty Falls Lead to Theories About a Potential Black Ops 6 Easter Egg

Current Theories About How to Uncover the Potential Easter Egg

  • Deer heads may need to be shot in a certain order.
  • They possibly need to be shot with a Marksman or Sniper Rifle.
  • Number of spikes on them may be a clue.

These listed theories were suggested by Reddit user MantisShrimp626, but there has yet to be any confirmation that these theories have helped unlock any surprises. While some have debated whether the deer heads are Easter eggs or not, there have already been secrets discovered within Black Ops 6. Nuketown’s mannequin Easter egg took some time to find, so the Liberty Falls deer heads could still hold some undiscovered hidden gem. Since the deer heads tilt when shot at, many have speculated that this is further confirmation of an Easter egg hidden in plain sight. However, Reddit user ArcadeAndrew115 debates that it’s “just a random interactable.”

This could be the case, but Black Ops 6, and Call of Duty in general, have a history of Easter eggs. One of the most infamous Easter eggs in the franchise comes from Black Ops 3. Known as the “Impossible EE”, the puzzle has yet to be solved nearly a decade later. Discussion among players on the CODZombies subreddit speculated that these deer heads could potentially be Black Ops 6‘s version of the “Impossible EE.” Of course, it may be too early to go that far, but there still has yet to be any substantial development on what the various deer heads could mean. Some Black Ops 6 Easter eggs have offered small, but amusing, discoveries, but the confusion surrounding the Liberty Falls deer heads implies something bigger.

Some players have claimed the deer heads still appear to them in Directed Mode, which could point to a bug. However, the deer heads tilting when shot at could still indicate an Easter egg.

Are Players Onto Something Deeper, or Simply Overthinking Things?

In Zombies, one never knows where an Easter egg will pop up. This mode has a rich history of hidden gems scattered throughout the maps, so it’s not surprising that so many players are convinced that the Liberty Falls deer heads could point to something much more significant. Liberty Falls has already proven it holds secrets, so it’s very possible that the code of the deer heads could eventually be cracked, if there’s anything to crack at all.

On the other hand, though, the tradition of hiding Easter eggs in Zombies maps could easily lead players to assume that anything in the map is more than it seems. It’s possible that Treyarch could be misdirecting players just for fun, but it’s still likely that the deer heads are not what they seem. Only time will tell how many secrets lie within the launch Zombies maps, but there will hopefully be more concrete answers to the Liberty Falls deer heads soon.
