Initially released in 2020, DayZ developer Bohemia Interactive has been hard at work turning around its free-to-play survival shooter Vigor following a rocky PC release earlier this year. Launching today, Season 21: Bloodline brings a number of important changes to take it to the next level, from a new faction to system improvements and, of course, a fresh battle pass full of goodies.
Bohemia Interactive’s FPS game has faced its fair share of difficulties throughout its early access period, with Vigor’s full release earlier this year starting out pretty rocky, too. However, it’s been steadily improving and clawing its way back from a wave of ‘mostly negative’ reviews on Steam. Now sitting at ‘mixed’ it’s still got a ways to go, but Season 21: Bloodline is far from the end.
One of the biggest additions in the survival game’s latest season is a new faction known as the Outlanders who are at odds with a a growing cult. And so, you’re given a choice: join the sinister cult or side with the Outlanders to restore the land. On the one hand, you’ve got a murderous cult, and on the other a group of do-gooders. It should be an easy choice…
In keeping with this season’s theme, the new Bloodline battle pass adds rugged lumberjack gear for the Outlanders and more menacing gear for those digging the cultist vibe. You can get everything from plaid shirts and jackets to makeshift rags with bones.
In terms of more tangible gameplay improvements, Bloodline brings a new laceration effect that will improve a handful of weapons. As you’d imagine, knives, bear traps, and crossbows can now lacerate enemies and cause bleeding, slowly draining their health. The bear trap item has also been reworked in its own right, making it much more useful when paired with the new laceration effect.
The old Charity Box has also been replaced by the much-improved Donation Hub. This gives you additional donation options and better rewards for your charitable efforts and challenge completions, with each donation raising your gratitude level – which is tracked via competitive leaderboards.
Vigor Season 21: Bloodline releases today, Wednesday, December 4, and is available to all players of the free-to-play title.
All in all, there are a handful of great quality-of-life improvements and new features that make Bloodline one of the survival multiplayer game’s best seasons yet. That’s a good milestone to reach, especially for a free PC game that didn’t start on the right foot.
