Pokemon TV is Making a Comeback

Pokemon TV is officially coming back later this month, this time as a YouTube channel featuring episodes from the classic Pokemon anime series. Pokemon TV was first introduced on the official Pokemon website in 2010 before being launched as a mobile app in 2013 and then being added to the Nintendo Switch eShop in 2021. It gave fans a free way to watch episodes from the long-running Pokemon show stretching all the way back to its earlier seasons on any device of their choosing, as it was also available to download on the Apple App Store, Google Play, Roku Channel Store, and the Amazon Appstore.

Sadly for fans who had come to enjoy using Pokemon TV to watch their favorite Pokemon episodes, Nintendo announced that the app would be discontinued, with it being delisted from all of its available platforms on January 8. From there, Pokemon TV shut down entirely on March 31, leaving fans to try and sort their way through multiple disjointed streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video to watch the original Pokemon anime.

Recent revenue estimates suggest Pokemon TCG Pocket has made a remarkable amount of money during the app’s first month after launch.

Now Pokemon TV is coming back as a full-fledged YouTube channel, as reported by Pokemon news tracker Serebii. The official announcement comes from The Pokemon Company, which says that the new version of Pokemon TV will go live on December 6. The Pokemon TV YouTube channel is already available to view, with a description stating that viewers will be able to “explore the world of Pokemon with Ash and Pikachu.”

Further details are unknown as of this writing, but the page’s description seems to imply that the new incarnation of Pokemon TV will be focused on the original Pokemon series for the time being. Last year, viewers said goodbye to Ash and Pikachu as the anime rebooted with Pokemon Horizons: The Series. This new show is based on the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet games and focuses on a new set of protagonists, Liko and Roy, as they set off on a new adventure in the Paldea region.

For now though, it looks like the new Pokemon TV will instead stream episodes from Ash and Pikachu’s 25-season journey through the world of Pokemon in the classic anime when it starts posting content on December 6. Fans wondered if The Pokemon Company was going to start a new streaming service after the original Pokemon TV was shut down, and now they have received their answer in the form of a new YouTube channel that will begin later this week.
