Nintendo Switch 2 Accessories Have Shown Up At China’s Alibaba

Nintendo Switch 2 Accessories Have Shown Up At China's Alibaba

Key Takeaways

  • Chinese site Alibaba has listed some Nintendo Switch 2 accessories.
  • It has cases and screen protectors for the new console even though Nintendo hasn’t revealed anything about it yet.
  • It’s unclear whether the accessories are legitimate, but if they’re not, it’s even less clear what device they’re intended for.

You’d think since it’s December that everyone will have accepted we won’t be hearing anything more about Nintendo‘s next console until at least January. Well, that’s where you’re wrong. The rumor mill we assumed had been boarded up until the new year has been busted back open as a store in China has started selling accessories it claims have been designed for the Switch 2.

The listings appear to have been discovered by Reddit user ertaboy356b who proceeded to share them on the GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit. They noted that they’re not sure whether the listing can technically be classified as a rumor or a leak but it’s unclear where these products have come from and if they are legitimate.

It’s official, Nintendo needs to sell 14 million more Switches to become the best-selling console ever.

The cases are pretty plain – just black with a Nintendo Switch 2 logo printed on the lid. If it’s the real deal, not only is this the first look we’ve gotten at the next Nintendo console’s logo, but it’s the first time we’ve been told what the console will be called. While the Switch’s successor has been colloquially referred to as the Switch 2 to keep things simple, Nintendo still hasn’t confirmed what its name will be. I still think Super Nintendo Switch is the best option, but not a lot of people seem to agree with me.

A Store In China Is Already Selling Nintendo Switch 2 Accessories

What Do We Think, Are These The Real Deal?

My first instinct when I saw these alleged Switch 2 accessories was that they’re mislabeled cases and screen protectors for a normal Switch. However, at 11.6 inches long, they’ve been designed to hold a handheld console that’s more than two inches longer than the Switch OLED, the biggest model of the console to date. Whatever the accessories have been created for, it isn’t a normal Switch.

The whole situation is very confusing since there are basically two possible explanations. The first is that Alibaba knows the dimensions of the next Nintendo console and it has gone rogue and released accessories before the Switch 2 has even been revealed. The other much stranger explanation is that Alibaba has gone out on a limb and tried to predict how big the next Switch is going to be and made some accessories for it. Explanation number two would also require the store to guess its name and make its own Switch 2 logo.

At the time of typing this, the listings are still up which means people in China can overprepare for the Switch 2’s arrival and buy what may or may not be compatible accessories for the next Nintendo console. Perhaps even riskier in China than it would be anywhere else since it has already been confirmed that the current Switch’s online services will be shut down in 2026, casting doubt over what Nintendo’s future in the country might look like.
