While you’re busy running your ranch and raising your favourite slimes in Slime Rancher, there’s always a constant threat lurking: the Tarr. These horrible slimes will eat the slimes you’re caring for on your farm, spawn other Tarr, and can attack you.

Slime Rancher: How To Restore The Glass Desert’s Oases
The Glass Desert has many varieties of slimes and food available, but many of them cannot be accessed until the Oases are restored.
You don’t want these nasty slimes lingering on your ranch, nor do you want to face the in the wild, so how do the Tarr appear and how can you get rid of them? We’ve got it all covered right here.
Where Do The Tarr Come From?
Tarr are formed when Largo eat foreign Slime Plorts. For example, if a Pink Slime eats a Rock Slime plort, it’ll become a Largo (a hybrid that shares qualities of both Slime types). However, if it then eats yet another kind of Slime Plort, that’s when a Tarr Slime forms.
To ensure you don’t accidentally cause Tarr to form on your ranch, ensure you keep your different Slimes and Largo safe within corrals where they can’t get out and mix with other types of Slimes (and their Plorts). This might mean unlocking and purchasing High Walls or an Air Net.
Tarr can also form while you’re out roaming away from your ranch too, as wild Slimes will naturally eat other Plorts and become Largo, which are then at greater risk of becoming Tarr. Keep a careful eye out and even dispatch them or run away.
What Do The Tarr Do?
The Tarr are a menace for a few reasons, but the worst is that they’ll eat your Slimes and in doing so, replicate themselves and cause even more trouble on your ranch. They’ll also eat your chickens, destroy your crops, and even attack you too.
They can quickly ruin your whole ranch, so as soon as you have an outbreak be sure to deal with it swiftly!
How Can You Destroy Tarr?
You can grab Tarr with your Vacpack and throw them into the sea or an incinerator to destroy them, but the easiest way to deal with them is to shoot water at them. One splash from your Vacpack will prevent Tarr from replicating, while repeatedly hitting it with water will destroy it.
Can You Stop Tarr From Happening In Your Save File?
The only way to permanently stop the Tarr from appearing in your game is to start a save file on Casual Mode, which offers more relaxed game play without Tarr Slimes.
There appears to be no way to change your Game Mode once you have started a game, so choose carefully when starting your save file.
