Fortnite has brought forth one of its biggest changes yet with Chapter 6 Season 1, introducing an onslaught of new content via a fresh Battle Pass, map, and items. From the Japanese-inspired setting to updated mechanics, Fortnite has made some substantial upgrades, but according to a recent rumor, an even bigger change is on the horizon. Well-known Fortnite leaker ShiinaBR is now claiming that the game is set to get a 5v5 mode in the future.
These fresh claims of 5v5 possibly coming to Fortnite could bring even more modes to what was originally touted as a Battle Royale experience. Since the game first launched back in 2017, Fortnite has quickly become many games in one. Modes like Rocket Racing, Zero Build, Fortnite Festival, and LEGO Fortnite have helped the game evolve into an industry juggernaut, and there could be even more growth in store if these rumors are true.

Fortnite Could Be Jumping Into the 5v5 Pool
The world of 5v5 multiplayer has been a long-running match type in popular games. Overwatch 2 and Valorant are some of the most popular, and if these Fortnite rumors hold any weight, then it looks like Epic Games is aiming to square up against some big competition. This isn’t the first time these rumors have circulated among the community. Another prominent leaker, known as HypeX, shared similar news at the beginning of November, claiming that Fortnite could be giving 5v5 a chance. Neither HypeX nor ShiinaBR were able to offer insight into when the rumored mode would drop, but considering the vast changes featured already made in Chapter 6, it’s not impossible for Epic Games to have the launch of such a mode slated within this Chapter.
According to ShiinaBR,

Going Toe-to-Toe With Overwatch 2 and Valorant
Although the hype surrounding 5v5 hero shooters is not as prevalent as it once was, Fortnite definitely has the audience to reignite some fun competition among the genre’s biggest titles. Games like the ill-fated Concord have tried to kickstart a new wave of 5v5 popularity, but failed to attract the same numbers. However, when it comes to Fortnite, it already has the benefit of being one of the biggest games in the world. That kind of pull is likely to make a potential 5v5 mode incredibly popular within the game, especially if it is first-person, like ShiinaBR has claimed.
Biggest Changes in Fortnite Chapter 6 So Far
- New map and weapons
- Four new movement mechanics (wall scramble, wall kick, roll landing, ledge jump)
- Sprites
- Return of hitscan
- Oni masks
Fortnite Continues to Grow at a Rapid Pace
In recent years, Fortnite has offered a variety of unique modes that compete with other similar titles. LEGO Fortnite stands as the game’s own take on Minecraft, while Fortnite Festival takes note of popular rhythm-based games like Guitar Hero and PaRappa the Rapper. These modes may not be as popular as the game’s original Battle Royale, but they still harbor strong player-bases that showcase Fortnite‘s knack for branching out into unexpected genres.
ShiinaBR also claimed 5v5 would feature “weapons”, but was not specific on whether these were special weapons for the mode or not.
Since these rumors and leaks have yet to be officially confirmed by Epic Games, ShiinaBR and HypeX’s words should be taken with a grain of salt. However, these notable leakers also have a history of divulging correct information, so only time will tell if this round of rumors are accurate or not. Fortnite has made bold changes with Chapter 6, so it wouldn’t be out of character for a 5v5 mode to arrive sometime soon. Until Epic Games confirms a 5v5 mode, though, these are merely claims, but there’s no denying that such an addition to Fortnite would likely create a frenzy among both current players and 5v5 fans.
