Arcane takes place in Piltover and Zuan, so we were undoubtedly going to see some champions that call these sister cities home. Arcane has quickly become one of Netflix’s most-watched and highest-rated series. And while we’ll likely get more shows in Runeterra, this particular story is wrapped up, with many champions showing up and some being teased for the future of the franchise.
Updated on December 2, 2024, by Lucas Olah: With a new season comes new characters – and some of them are champions. Arcane released its second and final season, concluding the story of Piltover and Zaun, at least for now. While we wait for the next League of Legends series, we have more characters to talk about, as well as a few who were referenced and will likely appear in future projects because of it.
This list contains spoilers for Arcane.
12 Vi
The Piltover Enforcer
Vi is one of the main characters of Arcane, and her story parallels her sister Powder (aka Jinx). We get to see Vi and Powder as kids and how their relationship changes through time as well as how much it affects the world around them.
We also get to see the origin of her gauntlets, provided by Jayce and his HexTech, and how her relationship with Caitlyn evolves, and how their relationship prevents them from going through dark paths. Lastly, it’s curious to see how someone from Zaun ended up earning the title of Piltover Enforcer – even though the title isn’t explicitly used in the show.
11 Jinx
The Loose Cannon
Jinx (aka Powder) is Vi’s younger sister and the adoptive daughter of Silco. As a result of her traumatic childhood with Vi, Jinx has developed some deep psychological trauma. After Vi seemingly abandons her, she becomes Silco’s adoptive daughter. Silco teaches her to use her rage to defeat his enemies.
That said, Jinx and Silco share a bond over being betrayed by their families. Thus, we see her journey through her broken mind and how she manages to heal, showing that there’s a lot more to Jinx than meets the eye.
10 Jayce
The Defender Of Tomorrow
Though he’s not the person who actually starts the events of the series, Jayce is responsible for many things here, being a key character throughout both seasons. He’s the man who created Hextech through the arcane (along with Viktor), and a lot of things happened because of it.
He also undergoes a powerful journey, from pacifist to man willing to do what’s necessary for a better tomorrow, making his title well-earned. His evolution is truly astounding and fascinating to watch, making you unsure if he’s making good decisions at times.
9 Heimerdinger
The Revered Inventor
Heimerdinger is a councilor of Piltover and a mentor figure to Jayce (and Ekko, eventually). Heimerdinger is known for great inventions and wisdom, as well as his age. His wisdom is likely why he is the head of the Piltover council too, though he eventually leaves the position and learns more about the world.
His growth from learning more about others and living more in the present makes him a fascinating character, and he offers a lot in his supporting role (as he should), as he makes other characters excel throughout the series.
8 Caitlyn
The Sheriff of Piltover
From expert marksman to councilwoman and nearly dictator, Caitlyn goes through quite a journey around here. Her story shows how important it is to understand the difference between justice and revenge, as there can be many pitfalls along the way when people you love are caught in the crossfire.
As briefly mentioned, both Caitlyn and Vi’s characters have a powerful dynamic and both help one another a lot, making both be better characters in the process, with an amazing romance arc between them.
7 Viktor
The Machine Herald
Viktor looks very different than his champion form, and we learn more about his tragic origin through Arcane. Viktor helps Jayce complete his Hextech research and even saves Jayce from complete despair when the council blocks his research from continuing.

Most of the League champion backstories are extremely tragic, but still amazing. Which backstory is the most well-written overall?
Viktor also faces a crippling disease that Hextech could potentially cure, and he’s determined to use Hextech not just for himself, but to make everyone’s lives better. This pursuit becomes an obsession, causing Viktor to act recklessly and selfishly. It’s worth noting that the show made him less technologically savvy and gave him a more divine appearance, and the game updated his look to match the series.
6 Singed
The Mad Chemist
Doctor Reveck appears early on and is also the catalyst for a lot of things in the show – most of them being bad. He creates drugs and does unethical experiments on animals and even people, with no sign of remorse whatsoever.
We’ll leave it to you to watch the show and find out about his reasons, but even though he’s not as prominent as others, he has a compelling reason for everything he does, so we’ll give him that.
5 Ekko
The Boy Who Shattered Time
Ekko shows up as a child in the first episode of Arcane. He is a childhood friend of Vi and Jinx, having grown up with them in Zaun. He even gave them the break-in tip on the penthouse in Piltover. Later in the show, he becomes the leader of the Firelights and does everything he can to help his community.
Eventually, we get to see how he becomes the boy who shattered time, as well as his tremendous willpower, as he’s determined to help those he cares about above all. And let’s face it; we all know he was the MVP of the show.
4 Ambessa
Matriarch of War
Pulling a complete 180 compared to the rest of the champions here, Ambessa is an original character from Arcane who later became a champion in League of Legends. She’s the matriarch of the Medarda family and a powerful Noxian general interested in power so she can protect what she values.
There’s also a good chance that her daughter, Mel, becomes a champion. That said, there’s no official confirmation, so we’ll just stick with Ambessa for now.
3 Warwick
The Uncaged Wrath of Zaun
Poor Vander, he didn’t catch a break in the show. A lot of people theorized the idea of Vander returning in season two as Warwick, but be careful with what you wish for. That said, Warwick appears in a story that is both intense and sad.
His appearance is also a bit more humanized, so we can still see the man he once was before the transformation, even during the final scenes. It remains to be seen if he’ll become more animal-like if the character appears again.
2 Orianna
The Lady of Clockwork
Orianna makes a very quick cameo. So quick, in fact, you could even miss it if you blink, or if you’re still sobbing because of the events before her appearance. Either way, she’s here, saved by her father with the help of Viktor, given how her robotic body looks like.
Because she’s a cameo, there are no lines for her, and we don’t know how her relationship with Singed will go from here or even what she thinks about what she is now. That’s one for the future.
1 Honorable Mentions
Not Present, But Referenced
League of Legends has far too many champions for just 18 episodes of a TV series, so most of them obviously didn’t make the cut. However, while Arcane wrapped itself up and is over, the show teases more for the future, even if it’s in the form of differently-named shows, other games, or whatever Riot decides to do.
Thus, some characters are referenced in one way or another, which makes them worth mentioning, such as:
- Kindred, who has a mask that resembles him, is worn by a random extra;
- Teemo, who appears to have books written about him;
- Swain, whose three-eyed raven appears by the end of the last episode;
- Jhin, who was referenced through an extra character (who gets more spotlight than extras tend to), who may or may not be actually him before his champion persona;
- LeBlanc, whose order, the Black Rose, appears significantly. We see one of its mages, a woman who has no name (not even in the credits). Because she changes forms, this mysterious woman could be LeBlanc herself or just someone else from the order, but there’s no confirmation.
