With no official announcement yet in sight, hints at the upcoming Switch 2 continue to leak. The latest apparent indicators of Nintendo’s approaching console announcement are accessories that have appeared on the Chinese commerce site Alibaba, and point to a similar design and device dimensions from previous alleged leaks.
Posters on the Famiboards forum (via Insider Gaming) shared the images earlier today as well as links to the Alibaba listings for the apparent Switch 2 accessories. An image of the screen protectors show the possible increase in size from the existing Switch, while an image of the carrying case shows button placements and contours similar to renders that appeared earlier this year.
The current Switch OLED utilizes a 7 inch screen, while previous leaks suggested the Switch 2 screen could be as big as 8 inches. The current model’s dimensions include a height of 4.02 inches, a width of 9.53 inches, and a total depth of 1.11 inches, while the new carrying case dimensions have a height of 5.9 inches, a width of 11.6 inches, and a depth of 1.9 inches.
While accessories manufacturers do get specifications in advance in order to prepare inventory ahead of launch, it’s also possible that companies are just speculating about what the Switch 2 dimensions will be just like everyone else, and the listings are just placeholders until Nintendo’s official announcement for the hardware occurs.
Still, it’s another possible indicator that the Switch 2 won’t deviate much from its predecessor in look and feel. We already know that it will be fully backwards compatible. While the Mario maker has a history of defying expectations, the Switch 2 might end up being the closest thing to a standard console generation upgrade the company has done in years.
