As someone who was so fascinated by the ancient world from an early age that they ended up going into student debt for it, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is easily one of my favorite games of all time. When Ubisoft first took its flagship series in a more RPG-oriented direction I wasn’t entirely sold on the prospect, but the Assassin’s Creed take on the Aegean is unlike anything else I’ve ever played. It perfectly blends the twisted history, myth, sailing, and combat the Assassin’s Creed games are known for, and you can grab it on Steam for its cheapest price yet.
Okay, I’ll admit it, I’ve come to this deal late. The Steam Autumn sale is coming to a close, and there have been so many excellent games at so many low prices that it’s almost impossible to find every good offer. I’m just here to talk to you about Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, though, because you can grab it dirt cheap for a limited time.
Set during the Peloponnesian War (a conflict between the city states of Athens and Sparta that went on for almost 30 years around 400 BC), you take up arms as either Alexios or Kassandra, exploring the land and sea of ancient Greece. You’ve still got your typical wacky gods and aliens Assassin’s Creed subplot, but the attention to detail in the RPG‘s world and sheer breadth of things to do take center stage.
For me, though, it’s Ubisoft’s commitment to blending myth and history that makes Assassin’s Creed Odyssey work. You can see what the Athenian Acropolis might have looked like in its prime, meet Socrates, and even find creatures like the Cyclops and Minotaur. The world is so rich in detail, and this makes Odyssey home to one of the best videogame landscapes ever conceived.
This Assassin’s Creed Odyssey sale also means that the game is enjoying quite a resurgence. In the last few days, it’s peaked at a whopping 30,000 Steam players, which is around half of the game’s launch peak in 2018.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is 90% off as part of the Autumn sale, so you can expect to pay $5.99 / £4.99 until Thursday December 4. You can get involved here. There are also plenty of Steam Black Friday sale deals to still check out.
