Released earlier this year to stellar reviews and only rising since, city-building simulator Workers and Resources: Soviet Republic has set its sights on new lands. While the base game centers around building a Soviet republic from the ground up, the new World Maps DLC lets you bring socialism to new shores, including the British Isles, France, and even North Korea. Yes, you can build your own Soviet republic in North Korea.
Arriving on December 13, the Workers and Resources World Maps pack not only adds new locations to the city-building game for the first time, but they’re also based on real-world locations to add yet another layer of depth to your Soviet construction sim.
The map pack will feature the following eight maps:
- Austria
- Czech Republic
- East Germany
- Eastern United States (New York State down to North Carolina)
- France
- British Isles
- Estonia
- North Korea
As you’d expect from such an eclectic selection of locations, each map varies in size and offers unique challenges, including topography and pre-established settlements and infrastructure that you’ll have at your disposal. In other words, you’ll have to plan carefully and rise to the challenge to develop your rich new Soviet republics around the globe.
Just like the standard Workers & Resources map, you will be able to manage every minute detail of your republic, from building infrastructure and manufacturing goods to managing the economy and day-to-day life of your citizens. It’s a remarkably deep management game, though undoubtedly one worth getting to grips with, having debuted to 92% ‘very positive’ reviews on Steam, then attaining the prestigious ‘overwhelmingly positive’ tag.
Workers and Resources is currently available at 50% off on Steam until Wednesday, December 4, costing $19.99 / £17.49. While the exciting new map pack won’t be available until after this sale has ended, you can at least get in early before bringing building your Soviet republic on more familiar ground.
After spending five years in early access before finally hitting 1.0 earlier this year, this DLC sets a strong pace for the strategy game going forward. While you wait for the DLC to drop, why not check out some of the best PC games available right now?
