On the back of the 10th anniversary of My Talking Angela by Outfit7, we saw an exciting Party with a Friend event and the debut of a fantastic Fashion Editor feature in My Talking Angela 2. To learn more about these updates and the creative process behind them, we at GamingonPhone sat with the Project Manager of My Talking Angela 2, Silina Senica Pintar for an interview. The lively discussion explored the game’s milestone celebration, character inspirations, future plans, and much more. So, here’s everything we learned!

1. What does Talking Angela represent for Outfit7, and why do you think it has resonated so deeply with players over the years?

Talking Angela is very close to my heart—I’ve been working with her for so long that she feels like a friend *laughs*. She has always represented creativity, self-expression, and friendship, and I think that’s why she resonates so deeply. For our players, she’s not just a virtual pet, but someone they can connect with on a personal level and express themselves through. She’s evolved so much since she first joined the Talking Tom & Friends universe, growing into her vibrant personality, complete with her own style, dreams, and quirks.

What makes Angela truly special is that she feels like a genuine companion. For some players, she might be someone they check in with after school or work, or whenever they just want a little escape. She’s there for her fans, offering a space for self-expression. In so many ways, Angela’s journey has been our journey too. We’ve also changed right alongside her, she started as a simple character when we were a small team with big dreams.

Over the years, as we kept adding new layers to Angela’s world, we were learning, expanding, and evolving ourselves. Every update we bring to her is a chance to rediscover that spark; to keep her real and relatable in a way that resonates with all of us. It’s like we’re on this adventure together, finding new ways to make her feel like a true friend to everyone who loves her. And honestly, it’s been just as meaningful for us as it has been for her fans.

2. Can you share how My Talking Angela first came to life and how it’s evolved over the last 10 years? What impact has Angela had on the broader Talking Tom & Friends universe?

When Angela was first created, she was envisioned as a counterpart to Talking Tom—someone who could bring a fresh, unique energy to the Talking Tom & Friends world. In those early days, we were still exploring her personality. Angela was fun, bright, and a bit ‘stereotypical,’ but there was always something more waiting to shine through.

Over the past few years, I’ve had the privilege of seeing Angela grow into something truly special. She’s become a character who is not only colorful but also confident. It’s been so rewarding to watch her evolve into someone that fans not only admire but can relate to on a deeper level, someone they can see a little bit of themselves in.

What I love most about Angela is that she reflects on how we can act in real life and make positive changes for ourselves. She’s creative, expressive, and not afraid to be herself, which has helped her connect so genuinely with fans. I think she shows players that it’s okay to embrace who they are—to love art, fashion, music, or anything that makes them feel unique. For some players, she’s like an inspiring friend who encourages them to find their own voice and have fun along the way.

In terms of impact, Angela achieved exactly what we wanted her to; she reached the part of our audience that Tom’s personality didn’t quite cover. As our second character, she added depth to the portfolio and broadened the franchise’s appeal to a wider audience. Her presence has encouraged us to explore new themes with other characters and expand beyond the original humor-centric approach, making the franchise more inclusive and resonant with different audience demographics.

Angela’s influence on the Talking Tom & Friends universe has been remarkable. By being herself, she’s shown us that our world can be about so much more than laughs and jokes. She’s brought a new kind of depth to the universe, and she’s pushed us to create stories that are inclusive and meaningful to a wider range of players. Because of Angela, we can explore different kinds of fun and friendships that resonate with players on a deeper level, which is something I’m really proud of.

3. The “Party with a Friend” event is a unique way to mark My Talking Angela’s 10th anniversary. What inspired this event, and how does it capture the spirit of the character and game?

When we started brainstorming ideas for My Talking Angela’s 10th-anniversary feature, our team quickly agreed on one thing: Angela’s world can feel a bit lonely. While characters like Tom have pets and My Talking Friends has a whole group together, Angela’s story has always been about her solo adventures in the city.

So we thought, why not bring someone special into her world for this big occasion? It was a simple idea, but one we knew would mean a lot. A chance for Angela to share a memorable moment with a friend, and a feature that everyone could connect with in their own way. Whether our players love birthdays or simply enjoy celebrating those warm connections, we wanted to make this moment feel like a little celebration of friendship.

This feature is personal for us because we’re trying to capture the joy of friendship and the excitement of a party. We wanted players to feel like they were right there, helping Angela plan this big day with Tom by her side. The experience is simple but full of heart: players get to decorate Angela’s apartment, decorate a cake, and set up a cozy, fun party scene. And of course, it wouldn’t be Angela’s party without a bit of style as players can dress up both Angela and Tom for the big day, making each detail feel personal.

One of my favorite parts is how players can choose their own way to finish the celebration, whether it’s with fireworks, a disco party, or breaking a piñata. We wanted it to feel like players were creating this moment with Angela, letting them add their own joy to her world. To us, this event isn’t just about throwing a party; it’s about creating a warm, memorable moment for Angela and her fans, celebrating the friendship and fun that makes her so special.

4. The Fashion Editor is a standout feature in My Talking Angela 2. What inspired its creation, and what makes it special for players? How does it bring added value and creativity to their gameplay experience?

The Fashion Editor started with this small, fun feature in My Talking Tom 2 where players could paint on a cake. During testing, we saw users lighting up when they could get creative, and our game designer had this spark of an idea: “What if players could do this on Angela’s clothes; on the outfits she could actually wear?” From there, we ran with it, and it became so much bigger than we expected.

For me, bringing Fashion Editor to life was one of those ‘wow’ moments. Fashion has always been central to Angela’s personality: she’s stylish, bold, and expressive. The idea that players could add their own flair to her wardrobe felt like the perfect evolution. It’s about more than just dressing Angela up; it’s letting players make her style a reflection of their own creativity. I love watching people express themselves through this feature because it feels like they’re truly connecting with Angela.

One moment that stands out to me is when we first saw players using Fashion Editor in testing. They were creating these wild, unique designs that we’d never imagined! It made me realize that players would find their own ways to make Angela’s style totally unique, and that’s exactly what we wanted. The response has been amazing; players are embracing this chance to show off their creativity, and it’s been so rewarding to see it take off like it has.

Looking back, I’m really proud that we took a chance on this idea. Fashion Editor feels like such a natural fit for Angela, and it brings a whole new level of personalization and fun to her world. It’s definitely a feature that’s here to stay.

5. With My Talking Angela 2, customization seems to be key. How does the game’s approach to personalization cater to individual player preferences, and what has been the player response to this focus? 

I think what’s so special about My Talking Angela 2 is that it lets players create their own narrative with Angela. For us, personalization wasn’t just an added feature—it was a way to bring Angela closer to each player. We wanted the game to feel like an open canvas where players could see themselves reflected in her world. Whether they’re styling Angela’s look, decorating her space, or diving into her many hobbies, it’s all about making her feel like a real companion who shares their unique interests.

One thing that really surprised and delighted me was seeing how differently people interpret Angela. We’ve had players share so many creative designs and personas! I remember one player who turned Angela into this fierce martial artist, while another went all-out with glamorous outfits and a sleek apartment style. It’s fascinating and heartwarming to see those unique versions of Angela come to life, and I feel proud that our game can be that flexible, and that personal.

And the feedback from players has been incredible. They love that Angela isn’t boxed into one personality or style; she can be as bold, casual, or quirky as they want her to be. When I read comments or see fan-made content, it reminds me that personalization really does make a difference. It’s about giving players a sense of connection and ownership—knowing they’re not just playing with Angela, they’re shaping her story alongside her. That’s the kind of bond we hope every player feels when they play My Talking Angela 2, and it’s what keeps us so passionate about finding new ways to make her world even more special.

6. How did the team approach the design of My Talking Angela 2 and its features to ensure it is visually engaging, creatively fulfilling, and accessible to a diverse audience?

My Talking Angela 2 is actually the third stand-alone game we’ve developed focusing on Angela. It all started with Talking Angela, then My Talking Angela, and finally, My Talking Angela 2. When we set out to create My Talking Angela 2, we wanted Angela to feel like a true companion—someone players could really connect with and enjoy spending time with, no matter who they are. The focus was on giving players the freedom to express themselves in how Angela looks and in how she lives her life.

We moved away from the idea of ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ choices—every version of Angela is perfect in her own way, and that’s what makes the game feel so welcoming. Accessibility was key, so we kept the controls intuitive. We also made sure that Angela’s world felt personal to players everywhere, from localized foods and decorations to music styles that reflect different cultures. This was about making sure everyone, no matter where they’re from, could connect with Angela and feel like her world was their own.

She’s gone from being a fun sidekick for Tom to a character who represents creativity, individuality, and friendship. With My Talking Angela 2, we’ve aimed to create something where players of all ages and backgrounds can connect with her, and seeing players’ responses and how much they embrace her is incredibly rewarding. 

7. Can you give us a sneak peek into upcoming features or events in My Talking Angela 2? Are there any plans for a possible third title?

Right now, we’re focused on keeping My Talking Angela 2 exciting for our players. It’s only been three years since it launched, and the game is still going strong, with millions of players coming back every day. That’s something we’re really proud of, and we’re committed to keeping the experience fresh.

One feature that’s been a big hit with players is the Fashion Editor; it’s been amazing to see how much creativity our fans have put into it. And we’re not stopping there! Looking ahead, we’ve got some really fun additions planned. It’s going to let players experiment with Angela’s look in ways we haven’t explored before.

As for a third title? It’s a little early to think that far ahead, but we’re definitely not done with Angela. We’ve got some surprises lined up that will keep her world evolving alongside her fans, and I can’t wait to share them with everyone!

8. How do collaborations with other brands or games help shape and expand the identity of My Talking Angela? What role do these partnerships play in reaching new audiences?

Up until now, My Talking Angela hasn’t had any official brand collaborations, but that’s something we’re definitely considering for the future. We’re currently exploring some really exciting partnership opportunities for My Talking Angela 2, which could open up some cool new creative avenues for Angela’s world.

I think collaborations have the potential to give Angela a whole new dimension. By teaming up with other brands or games, we can introduce fresh styles, themes, and experiences that resonate with different audiences. It’s also a great way to reach people who may not have met Angela yet—while giving our loyal fans something new and exciting to enjoy.

We’re really looking forward to what’s coming down the pipeline, and I can’t wait to share more soon. I think these collaborations will add a whole new level of fun and creativity to Angela’s world!

9. How does Outfit7 balance monetization in My Talking Angela 2 to ensure that the game remains accessible, enjoyable, and fair for all ages?

At Outfit7, we always put our players first, and that’s at the heart of how we approach monetization in My Talking Angela 2. Our main goal is to make sure that the game is fun and accessible, and allows everyone to enjoy it, regardless of their age or whether they choose to spend money.

While we do offer in-game purchases and ads, we’re really thoughtful about how we’ve designed them. You’ll never feel pressured to spend—this is about giving players the freedom to enjoy the game however they want. We want everyone to have a great time, no matter their choices.

To make sure we strike the right balance, we use timers to control when ads appear. We don’t want to disrupt the flow of the game too early. Instead, we let players get comfortable, explore Angela’s world, and settle into the experience before we offer any optional purchases or show ads. We want the experience to feel natural and enjoyable, no matter how players decide to engage.
