Not everyone in the Bleach universe is as hot-headed and proactive as Ichigo. There are a fair few individuals, both heroes and villains, who would instead prefer to let others do the work for them while they relax and enjoy their own company. To sum it up, these characters can be considered lazy because of how they tend to avoid taking responsibility or getting involved in serious situations when they really ought to.

Thanks to author Tite Kubo’s excellent character writing skills though, lazy characters in Bleach can still come across as entertaining to watch, whether it’s because of their comedic humor, or due to their possessing an immense amount of power. Either way, these are the characters who are considered some of the laziest in the Bleach series.

1 Kyoraku Shunsui

Suigetsu’s Nonchalant Personality Makes Him A Pretty Lousy Combatant

Early on in the Bleach story, Kyoraku is presented as being a strong, but ultimately, very unconcerned member of the Gotei 13. When fans first get to see Kyoraku after Chad runs into him, the captain is lying on the floor, drinking all by his lonesome, and even offers the enemy standing right in front of him a drink.

When Chad declines and begins to launch a barrage of attacks, rather than jump into action, Kyoraku dodges every one like child’s play, all while sitting down. He does come to take more responsibility as the story progresses, but even when facing deadly threats like Coyote Starrk, Kyoraku’s laziness still tends to get the better of him at the worst of times.

2 Yukio Hans Vorarlberna

Yukio Can Almost Always Be Seen Lazing Around With His Handheld Console

It can be easy to forget Yukio is a member of the Fullbringers considering all he likes to do is hide away and play his handheld console. Whenever the Fullbringers have something serious to attend to, such as when they are tasked with training Ichigo, Riruka has to be the one to push Yukio to pitch in, which he only does so begrudgingly.

As a result, this guy gets barely any screen time since it’s implied that, whenever he’s not urgently needed, he’s engrossed in an intense gaming session. Even when being summoned back for the final arc, Yukio still rarely looks away from the screen. One thing is for sure though, whatever game he’s playing, it must be pretty long for him to still be going at it so intently.

3 Gremmy Thoumeaux

Gremmy’s Imaginative Powers Means He Doesn’t Need To Move A Muscle In Combat

Since Gremmy’s ability, The Visionary, allows him to pull anything he can imagine into reality itself, he doesn’t need to move a muscle when facing off against an enemy, making him a rather lazy combatant. A prime example of this on display can be seen in Gremmy’s duel with the bloodthirsty captain of Squad 11, Zaraki Kenpachi.

While Kenpachi throws everything he has at Gremmy and is even forced to unleash his Bankai which takes an immense toll on his body, Gremmy stands in the same spot for almost the entire fight. He even managed to call down a meteor just by imagining it into existence. Luckily, Gremmy was given this unique power since his lazy personality definitely wouldn’t have been compatible with any kind of sword fighting.

4 Coyote Starrk

The Number 1 Espada Would Rather Relax And Watch The World Go By Rather Than Fight

It’s ironic that, out of all of Aizen’s Espada, Starrk is the one who acquires the number 1 spot in terms of power level, since he also happens to be the most relaxed and laziest of the bunch. When Starrk is forced to go up against Kyoraku during the Fake Karakura Town arc, he seems less than bothered about the captain standing in front of him and constantly tells Kyoraku he’d rather avoid fighting if he can.

The truth is, Starrk possesses such a staggering amount of Spiritual Pressure, it meant any Hollows that even got close to him would be killed, forcing him into isolation when he was young. As a result, Starrk has gotten pretty accustomed to lazing around and watching the world go by, despite being one of Aizen’s strongest subordinates.

5 Marechiyo Omaeda

Omaeda’s Lazy Personality Often Clashes With His Serious And Stoic Captain

Though Omaeda does begin to pull his weight a little more later on in the series, for the first few arcs, he is largely characterized as being a burden on his captain Soi Fon due to his lazy nature and obsession with potato chips. Unlike his stoic captain who is always deadly serious and focused on the mission at hand, Omaeda is a much more carefree spirit who takes a laid-back approach to the events going on around him.

This isn’t to say that he won’t spring into action when needed, but as Soi Fon knows all too well, trying to push this guy to do his duty is no easy task. Thankfully, Kubo does show Omaeda in a much better light during the Thousand Year Blood War, but then again, it’s hard to be so nonchalant when an army of Quincies arrives at your doorstep.

6 Giselle Gewelle

Who Needs To Put In Effort When A Zombie Army Can Do Everything For You?

Giselle’s ability, The Zombie, allows her to resurrect her friends and foes to become members of her own personal zombified army. As a result, Giselle doesn’t really need to do any of the fighting herself, with her instead throwing mindless corpses toward the enemy, and then snacking on their flesh later if she ends up getting injured, as she was shown doing with her deceased “friend” Bambietta.

Since Giselle is also able to be slashed to pieces without feeling a thing, it means she doesn’t need to try all that much in her fights, letting her zombies get their hands dirty in her place. This casual and relaxed personality has helped to make Giselle a lovable, albeit still very creepy, member of the Sternritter ranks.

7 Rangiku Matsumoto

Every Day In The Soul Society Is A Lazy Day For Rangiku

Throughout the story of Bleach, there have been many scenes showcasing what each of the Soul Reapers gets up to on their days off. For some, like Renji or Hitsugaya, this involves training with their Zanpakuto, while for Byakuya, it can mean filling out paperwork. For Rangiku though, even if she has urgent responsibilities to attend to, she is almost always shown getting plastered at the bar with whoever she can convince to join her.

There have even been times when she has been shown teasing her captain Hitsugaya for being too “hard-working,” which often ends in the two bickering with one another. Rangiku is another Soul Reaper who is more than willing to show what she’s made of when the situation calls for it, despite the fact she’d rather be taking a hot bath or enjoying a few rounds of sake instead.

8 Askin Nakk Le Var

It Takes A Lot For Askin To Actually Start Trying When Engaged In A Battle

• First Appearance: TYBW Episode 17

Askin may be a high-ranking member of the Schutzstaffel, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that he always tries his hardest in battle. In fact, Askin tends to run away from any confrontations that look like they would require him to use up at least a little bit of energy, as shown when he sprints away from Grimmjow, only to then find a nice and serene spot where he can enjoy a cup of coffee.

Later in the Thousand Year Blood War, Yoruichi even comments that Askin is purposefully holding back his power and just toying around with his prey. If his picnic baskets and coffee machines are anything to go by, Askin would just prefer to sit around and enjoy some delightful snacks, which is what he does for much of the first half of the final arc.
