In Baldur’s Gate 3, there is a solid variety of lovable companion characters that can be recruited into your adventuring party. These companions consist of Shadowheart, Lae’zel, Astarion, Karlach, Wyll, Halsin, Minthara, Jaheira, and Minsc. However, as lovable as these characters are, many fans became attached to certain side characters who appear throughout the game. One of the most popular fan-favorites for characters who ‘should have been a companion’ is Alfira, the Tiefling Bard from Emerald Grove. She remains a side character in a general playthrough, and faces a much worse fate in a Durge run.
For players who find themselves attached to Alfira and wanting her to tag along with them throughout their journey, this is possible as of Patch 7. Thanks to the addition of the in-game mod manager, mods are easier than ever to install with just a few clicks of your mouse. One of the most popular additions to this mod menu is a mod that enables players to recruit Alfira after meeting her at the Grove, and have her join them for the remainder of the game. Here’s how to do that so you can have Alfira tag along in your own run.

How to Recruit Alfira as a Party Companion in Baldur’s Gate 3
Before rushing into your game, you will first need to ensure you have the correct mod file installed for recruiting Alfira. This can be done easily from the Patch 7 Mod Menu by loading Baldur’s Gate 3 into the main menu, selecting the Mods button, and then using the search bar to locate and install the correct mod. This mod is titled AlfiraJoinsTheParty, created by mod author adriant1978. To ensure you have the correct file installed, a reference image of the exact mod has been included below, so feel free to double-check.
Once this mod has been installed, start a new Baldur’s Gate 3 playthrough and work your way through the first stage of the story until you stumble upon Emerald Grove. Once you have won the fight against the Goblins, entered the Grove, spoken to Zevlor, and interacted with any other individuals you wish to chat with within the gates, you can move on to the recruitment process for Alfira.
Alfira Recruitment Process in Baldur’s Gate 3 (AlfiraJoinsTheParty Mod)
- Head to Emerald Grove, and locate Alfira in her usual spot attempting to work on her song.
- Help Alfira complete her song. This is the only way to recruit her, so if you wish to get Music/Instrument Proficiency, you will have to opt for the Performer Feat instead.
- After completing Alfira’s song, you can spend the rest of the in-game day completing and progressing other quests around the Grove and surrounding areas. Saving Mirkon from the Harpies, and starting your investigation of Auntie Ethel are both viable options.
- Once you have made enough progress to satisfy yourself, or consumed all of your Short Rests, you will need to complete a Long Rest.
- Upon triggering a Long Rest, Alfira will visit your camp and the recruitment scene typically reserved for Durge playthroughs will play out.
- You can now select to welcome Alfira into the group, except this time she’s here to stay!
- From now on, Alfira can be included in your party, leveled up, and respecced just like any other companion character.
