In your initial run of Remnant 2’s Forgotten Kingdom DLC (in Adventure Mode at least), you will almost assuredly bump into the Phase of the Moon Event. It can pop up in a couple of different locations including the Earthen Coliseum and the Proving Grounds.

This lunar puzzle can be a bit confusing at first and there are more rewards surrounding it than it initially appears, so let’s go over the Remnant 2 random event in depth. This includes how to solve it, how to not even worry about solving it, what the rewards are, and more.
Updated December 1st, 2024 by Jacob Buchalter: With all the planned DLCs for Remnant 2 now out, it’s easy to look back and see that The Forgotten Kingdom DLC had the most complex and interesting puzzles of the bunch. While The Awakened King had the best fights (generally) and the best atmosphere and The Dark Horizon had the new gear, The Forgotten Kingdom DLC was all about the puzzles and secrets. And, one of the fan-favorite secrets of this DLC has to be the Phases of the Moon Event that can appear in areas like the Earthen Coliseum and the Proving Grounds. There are a lot of items to obtain in the area of this event, so let’s go over how this event works and how to obtain all the items it has to offer.
The Phases Of The Moon Event
What Exactly Is It?
You’ll know you’ve arrived at the Phases of the Moon Event area of whatever map it pops up in if you come to a t-shaped area of the map, with this diagram of the moon phases on one wall. There’s also a journal below the mural that goes a bit more into the Yaesha lore of this event, but to solve it the only thing you’ll need is to remember the order of this mural.
There are 9 phases of the moon in total here to see, and if they were named the same as the phases of our Earth-Moon, it’d be in this order:
Phase Name |
Image |
---|---|
New Moon |
|
Waxing Crescent |
|
First Quarter |
|
Waxing Gibbous |
|
Full Moon |
|
Waning Gibbous |
|
Last Quarter |
|
Waning Crescent |
|
New Moon (Again) |
|
Essentially, the puzzle wants you to move from one circle on the floor to another, following the order of the moon phases. So keep an eye out below you and go from phase to phase to get across. If you happen to get it wrong, you’ll fall through the floor below and come up against a lot of Living Armor enemies as well as an incredibly difficult-to-kill Root monstrosity. And, to make matters worse, a lot of the floor in this lower area is partially underwater, so you’ll be struggling to dodge as well.
Rewards In This Area
Every Item You Can Find Here
Now let’s go over what exactly you can get from the Phases of the Moon puzzle. There are a couple of items you can get here, more than you might expect, alongside the usual Scrap and Upgrade Materials from defeating enemies. These are:
Icon |
Name |
Type |
Effect |
---|---|---|---|
|
Mark of the Destroyer |
Ring |
Perfect Dodging triggers a 3-meter area of effect blast that deals 310 Explosive Damage. |
|
Moon Stone |
Amulet |
Increases Reload Speed by 15 percent. Every 3rd manual reload will reload both weapons & also increase Ranged Damage by 15 percent for 10 seconds. |
|
Tome of Knowledge |
Item |
+1 Trait Point (or +500 Scrap if you’re maxed out) |
It’s also worth mentioning that you can clear out the lower area completely. While that tall Root monster does have an absurd amount of health, he is still able to be killed, meaning you can clear all the enemies out and then explore this lower area to your heart’s content.
Unintended Solutions
AKA Following a Guide & Shooting the Ground
Now, if you don’t care about solving this puzzle the ‘intended’ way, there are actually two other ways to solve it that are probably faster. The first method is to just follow a guide telling you the path to follow, such as:
- Left, Forward, Right, Forward, Right, Back, Right, Back (AKA ←, ↑, →, ↑, →, ↓, →, & ↓) to get to the open doorway, obtain the Mark of the Destroyer Ring, & open the shortcut
- Left, Forward, Forward, Left, (AKA ←, ↑, ↑, & ←) and then jump towards the corner Full Moon tile to fall through into a separated lower room that holds the Moon Stone Amulet.
And for the second unintended easy solution, just shoot the floor. Much like the invisible bridge puzzle in The Lament, you can simply shoot the floor ahead of you during this Moon Phase puzzle and see if the bullets go through the floor or not.
If they do, that’s not a floor you can step on, if they don’t, then you’re safe to walk forward. It’s best to use a gun with unique projectiles that sort of ‘stick out’ of whatever they hit, like the Thorn Long Gun, but any weapon will work well enough for this trick.
