Join the Ravenswatch as one of nine legendary figures in fables and legends. When the world of Reverie is in danger from encroaching ghouls and other figures of fables going rogue, it’s up to these chosen champions to stand against the Nightmare that is corrupting the world.

In this rogue-like experience, each playable hero offers a different way to play and handle their mechanics. Experimenting with each one as you explore the randomized maps and enemies that await you will help you figure out the origins of the nightmares, open up their individual storylines, and make each run more enjoyable.

9 The Pied Piper

Symphony Of Rats And Dancing Death

He was once a talented musician with an ear for a good tune. But the curse of the Nightmare drove the Pied Piper to cause calamity and devastation. His cursed symphonies can bring enemies down in a dance of death or summon a legion of rats to pick at them until nothing remains.

The Pied Piper is one of three heroes whose abilities shift between day and night explorations. During the day, he’s better at taking down individual targets and doing the most damage to the first injured enemy. During nighttime, he’s better at dealing with groups of enemies from a distance. Because he’s not very direct in combat and has several requirements and changes that are dependent on either day or night, he’s a challenging character to start with.

8 Geppetto

Creator Of The Puppet Legion

Geppetto was once a kindly puppet maker. After losing his son to the Nightmares, he became a mad inventor and creator of automatons. Now, he uses his skills to create and repair his puppet legions for battles against the Nightmares.

Geppetto can fight with his hammer alongside his puppet creations in battle. His hammer can also fix them when their health is low, use them to distract enemy attacks, and use other inventions to navigate around the battlefield. Tossing bombs is another way that Geppetto could take down his enemies. Like Pied Piper, Geppetto wields his puppet legions as a big part of his skill set and attacks. Leaving him alone would be a bad idea. Without his puppets, Geppeto could get in trouble against overwhelming enemies.

7 Aladdin

Power Of The Wishing Lamp.

A masterful thief with a powerful genie in a lamp. The effects of the Nightmare caused Aladdin’s beloved princess to be trapped in his mystical lamp, which caused him to pledge his abilities to help guard the Reverie. With the power of Jinniya of the Lamp, Aladdin can pull all kinds of magic tricks to bring down the monsters of darkness.

Aside from the lamp, Aladdin also wields scimitars in battle, uses the ring of Jinn, and can maneuver around with the flying carpet. Many of these attacks help him maintain and dispatch a group of enemies with relative ease. Aladdin has many great magical options and methods to use in battle. The trick is to memorize all the best ways to use them. This, of course, will take a lot of practice and will result in some unlucky circumstances.

6 Melusine

Siren Of The Tempest

Melusine was already a fearsome siren before the Nightmares’ corruption entered her realm. Now, she will set her wrath against any threats to herself and the child she carries within. Combined with the WIll-o-wisps and her power over water, Melusine is a dangerous force on the battlefield.

With the siren’s call, Melusine can change between two different stances. In the Sing stance, she can cast a controllable Will-o-wisp for attacks, but she becomes immobile in the process. Moving stance removes the Wisp and lets Melusine get pushed around and use her other abilities and water-based attacks. Melusine’s alternative means of play can grant you different strategies, and her singing stance is great for the earlier levels. Just be sure that you’re always on the move against bosses.

5 The Snow Queen

Matriarch Of The Bitter Winter

She was once a beloved ruler of her people until she became the living incarnation of Winter’s wrath. The Snow Queen joined Ravenswatch when the corruption affected her powers, making her a fierce sorceress with control over ice.

The Snow Queen freezes her foes with ice lances and leaves them immobile so that she can use other attacks and spells to finish them off. She also has excellent mobility, skating around enemies with ease and creating doubles of herself that will cause additional damage when they are destroyed. Her ability to freeze enemies for additional free attacks makes her one of the better characters to use.

4 Sun Wukong

The Monkey King Of The West

The legendary Monkey King from the epic fable Journey to the West. Sun Wukong lost his invulnerability to the power of the Nightmare and is now allied with the other members of Ravenswatch to fight corruption and restore his power.

Despite his new mortality, Sun Wukong is still a formidable warrior who masters the balance of Yin and Yang. In the Yin state, Sun Wukong activates additional healing with every ability, attack, and protection for allies. In the Yang state, Sun Wukong deals and takes more damage and grants heroes additional strength in battle. The Monkey King is very combat-focused and is a great character to take initiative damage against a group of enemies and bosses.

3 Carmilla

Lady Of The Blood Red Night

A bloodthirsty mistress of darkness that can hunt her prey in the night and day. Carmilla uses blood to fuel her power and keep her health up in strenuous fights. She can also lash out with her razor claws to tear enemies apart.

Carmilla can also transform into a swarm of bats, making her intangible to damage while she can move around. She can also bite her foes to gain blood, boosting her power and healing her throughout the fight. Her ability to sap the health of other enemies for her own use makes her versatile for skilled players, and she can defeat waves of enemies with little effort.

2 Scarlet

Little Red Riding Is The Big Bad Wolf

Little Red Riding has the Big Bad Wolf just waiting to come out with a howling vengeance. Scarlet is a lycanthrope after the incident in her fairy tale. As a result, she becomes a rogue assassin of the wild and becomes even more fearsome under a full moon.

Because of her curse, Scarlet can be played differently depending on whether it’s daytime or nighttime. She is a swift, professional assassin armed to the teeth with daggers, bombs, and a shotgun, but at night, she becomes a terrifying werewolf that rampages against the Nightmares. Scarlet’s unique shifts of playstyle depending on day and night cycles make her a unique character to play through several times. She is a blast to level up, and each new ability makes her a formidable assassin and berserker werewolf.

1 Beowulf

A Hero And His Dragon Baby

A legendary hero of old myths, Beowulf was the last king of the north and the slayer of monsters until his fateful battle against the fire-breathing dragon. Though he defied fate and survived slaying the beast, he was left to care for the dragon’s offspring. In Ravenswatch, Beowulf and his baby dragon help the other fairy tale champions fight the Nightmares’ corruption.

Beowulf is equipped with a giant sword imbued with runic symbols, allowing him to harness several elements in his attacks. Alongside the mighty warrior, his baby dragon companion can blast foes with fiery attacks. Together, Beowulf and his dragon can do short work against the fearsome monsters in the world and make for a great pair to start making good progress through different runs. Beowulf is a great character for beginners and an absolute juggernaut in the hands of the right player. He is the best at bringing in physical attacks, and his baby dragon only adds to the arsenal.
