It’s almost time for Delta Force’s highly-anticipated open beta to arrive. With no end date set, this is basically an early access period for the tactical shooter, which currently sits in the top five most wishlisted games on Steam. That’s an indicator of just how much hype there is for this FPS, which takes the fight to games like Escape From Tarkov with its Operations extraction mode and Battlefield with its large-scale Warfare mode. There’s potential for a huge number of players to jump in on launch day, so Delta Force has spun up some new servers to help cope with the strain.
Delta Force looks really excellent. Blending tactical mil sim gameplay with a dash of hero shooter thanks to its unique playable operators, this free-to-play FPS game will no doubt be very high up the Steam charts when it arrives later this week. However, there’s always a danger with new multiplayer titles that they won’t be able to cope with the influx of players, and a poor initial experience could hamper Delta Force’s efforts in winning shooter fans over. So, in preparation, developer Team Jade has just announced several new server locations around the world.
In a new post on X, Team Jade confirms that alongside the nine server locations it had already established, it has added five more spread across two continents. “Operators, we’ve seen your enthusiasm and heard your request for additional Delta Force servers,” the post reads. “To provide the best possible connection to as many players as possible, we’re opening additional servers in Mexico, South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, [and] Hong Kong.”
These will now host games alongside the existing servers in the US (California and Virginia), Brazil, Germany, Finland, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Japan, and Australia.
Already, in both its August alpha test and October demo period, Delta Force has put up some decent numbers – the latter achieved a peak concurrent player count on Steam of just under 40,000. I fully expect that number to be surpassed during the first few days of the open beta. With two distinct subsections of the FPS community (the extraction shooter enjoyers and those that love games like Battlefield) both having a deep interest in Delta Force, combined with the fact that’s its free-to-play, there are going to be a lot of people gearing up for some Operations and Warfare games.
The only thing going against Delta Force is that it’s launching in a busy old week for new PC games, including another big, highly-anticipated free-to-play competitor in Marvel Rivals. While it is of course very different in that it’s a third-person superhero shooter, it’s another free multiplayer game that will command the attention of many competitive gamers out there. Add on top of that the launch of Path of Exile 2, and you can see how busy it is at the moment for major new releases.
Delta Force’s open beta goes live on Steam on Wednesday, December 4.
