Baldur’s Gate 3 Fans Discuss Chaotic Scenarios If Dark Urge Was A Companion

Baldur's Gate 3 Fans Think Larian Will Change Dark Urge's Default Subclass

The Baldur’s Gate 3 gang are some of the best companions a Tav could ask for. A sultry vampire, musclebound demon, ex-cultist, angry lizard lady, and overall chill bear-guy are all you need to save the world and have a few laughs along the way. Yes, I know I left out Wyll. That’s on purpose. These companions have become so popular that they’ve even made it into some other games.

He’s a fantastic character with just a bit too much of his story left on the cutting room floor. Let’s give him his flowers!

While Tav acts as the point of view for the player, it’s Astarion, Karlach, Shadowheart, and the rest of the gang that add the much needed personality that’s required in a massive RPG like Baldur’s Gate 3. Regular camp banter is just as important as exploring and taking down the Netherbrain. However, some fans can’t help but wonder what would happen if you could recruit Dark Urge like the rest of the companions.

What If Dark Urge Was A Companion In Baldur’s Gate 3?

Dark Urge, lovingly known as Durge, is a special origin character that you can play as, ideally in a second or third playthrough of the game. They have a secret and a little voice in their head telling them to be more chaotic than Astarion. We won’t reveal more to avoid spoilers. Redditor _Beardlet_ asked if anyone else wished they were recruitable to the party.

“I’m genuinely bummed now that we can’t recruit the default Dark Urge character in the game as a companion,” they asked in a Reddit post. “I think he would have been really cool and fun to interact with. I also think the story could have been interesting where you maybe have to choose whether or not to rescue him from a room on the mindflayer ship.”

Fan fiction is a big part of the Baldur’s Gate 3 community, so the comments got to work creating hilarious scenarios of what would happen if Durge was added to the party. One comment mentioned that if your party was full, Durge would probably nonchalantly murder one of your companions to make place.

“You know how Karlach and Wyll leave if you attack the grove? Maybe the Durge could only be recruitable if you side with the goblins, giving players a reason to side with them and rebuilding some of the party you just lost,” said another comment. “I can imagine the Durge being inclined to join a Tav who just killed dozens of innocents.”

Another comment created an entire murder mystery around Durge killing people one by one in the Emerald Grove and you have to stop them before they kill everyone. You can recruit them later and redeem them, if you want to.

Given the vast lore of the game, there are plenty of ways to incorporate Durge as a companion. Just be prepared for things to get really chaotic when you least expect it.
