Due to this, Obsidian has had even more time to polish a game that would have seemingly been ready to go this year. Unsurprisingly, this has Obsidian feeling even better about Avowed’s chances, prompting one longtime dev to say that this is the “most confident” he has felt about a game launch.
Longtime Obsidian Artist Discusses Avowed’s Upcoming Launch
Speaking with GamesRadar, lead environmental artist Dennis Presnell shared how he feels about Avowed’s launch in a couple of months.
“Games are really hard to make, and every experience is different,” says Presnell. “I’ve always felt a certain level of dread months before a game shipped, a case of the nerves. But this is the most confident I’ve ever been in my experience at this stage of the project.”
It’s unsurprising to hear that Presnell has previously associated this time in development with dread. He’s been at Obsidian since 2003, so he was there for the development cycles of games like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 and Fallout: New Vegas – much-loved RPGs made on tight deadlines. This resulted in a lot of cut content with the former, and performance issues with the latter. Fingers crossed, this extra development time on Avowed means that those days are over.
Avowed is set to launch on February 18, 2025. It will be available on Xbox and PC.
