Although VALORANT isn’t an open-world game, it still contains a variety of graphic settings, one of which is known as Anisotropic Filtering. While configuring their graphics settings, players often wonder what Anisotropic Filtering is, how it improves the visual experience and most importantly, how it affects performance. With that said, here’s everything you need to know about the Anisotropic Filtering setting in VALORANT.
VALORANT Anisotropic Filtering explained
Anisotropic Filtering (AF) in VALORANT is a graphical setting that improves the clarity of textures, especially those viewed at sharp angles. If the Anisotropic Filtering is disabled, it may appear blurry or lack detail when seen from certain angles.
How it Works:
- Texture Quality at Angles: The game’s rendering engine often reduces its resolution to improve performance when textures are viewed at steep angles. AF counters this by sampling texture data more intelligently to preserve clarity.
- Improved Detail: AF also allows the game to render detailed textures at different levels of depth and angles which makes surfaces and objects appear sharper and more realistic.
AF settings are often adjustable (e.g., 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x) with higher numbers which indicates better quality but keep in mind that higher numbers usually impact the performance and slightly affect the FPS.

How to change Anisotropic Filtering in VALORANT
To change Anisotropic Filtering settings in VALORANT, you must follow these steps in the game:
- Launch VALORANT and head to the main menu.
- Click on the gear icon (Settings) located in the top right corner of the screen.
- Head to the Videos tab and find Anisotropic Filtering in the list.
- Finally, click on it to change the settings.
We recommend setting it to 2x if you have a low to mid-spec gaming setup as it’ll ensure that you’re getting enough FPS and a smooth gameplay experience. However, if you have a powerful GPU, you can definitely set it to max as it won’t affect the performance anyways.
