The Veilguard Mods Lets You Import Your Warden

The Veilguard Mods Lets You Import Your Warden

Key Takeaways

  • A Dragon Age: The Veilguard player has modded the reference to the Hero of Ferelden to include their surname.
  • This makes it possible to reference your Hero of Ferelden’s specific background.
  • It comes after The Veilguard dropped world states, making it difficult to reference characters from previous games.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is the first sequel in the series that doesn’t let us import our world states from previous games. This means that, with the exception of the Inquisitor and three of the decisions they made, the previous protagonists can’t really be referenced, since the game doesn’t even know their names let alone what they got up to.

There is one touching reference to the player character from Dragon Age: Origins – the Hero of Ferleden – as you can find the chalice they drank from to become a Grey Warden. However, since we can’t import any information on the character, everything is kept quite vague – which is where a new mod comes in.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Mod Lets You Import Your Hero Of Ferelden’s Background

The Warden, the player character in Dragon Age: Origins

Nexus user delawana has shared a mod that lets you import your Hero of Ferelden’s background. This changes the text on the joining chalice to reference your Warden’s surname, making it more specific to your Origins playthrough.

Better yet, you can even select whether or not your character became the Warden-Commander. This means it respects playthroughs which ended with the Hero of Ferelden making the ultimate sacrifice to defeat the Archdemon, since they wouldn’t have lived long enough to be given that new title.

There’s a different download for each origin and title combination (my Warden-Commander Amell lives on!), so just select which ones lines up with your Origins playthrough.

Veilguard dropping world states was a major letdown for many fans, especially since characters our protagonists would have interacted with – like Morrigan and Varric – are in the game. Now that the game is out, we know that it gets around this by only referring to past events sparingly, and for the most part, wording dialogue in such a way that doesn’t contradict different playthroughs.

Frustratingly, there’s plenty of evidence to suggest that world states were a thing at some point in development, only to be scrapped for whatever reason. But at the very least, this mod lets us acknowledge that our Hero of Ferelden exists.
