27 Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge – Enhanced Edition

OpenCritic Rating: 74

star wars tales from the galaxy's edge

Many of the best PlayStation VR games still haven’t made their way over to the PSVR 2, due largely to how different the control schemes for the two platforms are. However, Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge – Enhanced Edition ended up being a launch title for the PSVR 2 and remains every bit as enjoyable as it was on the headset’s predecessor.

Whether or not it’s worth the full asking price is debatable, but if picked up in a sale, Star Wars fans are unlikely to come away disappointed. It starts out a little slowly, but ultimately offers up an incredibly exciting experience once the pace finally starts to pick up. Not every quest is a winner, but the world in which they all take place is one that’s well worth exploring.

26 Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted

OpenCritic Rating: 79

monster in Five Nights at Freddy's Help Wanted

As fans eagerly await the release of Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted 2, there’s still time to check out the game’s predecessor, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted. It was initially released for the PSVR in 2019 but was later ported to the PSVR 2 in November of 2023, mere weeks ahead of the sequel’s launch on the platform.

The Full Time edition includes all of the game’s DLC as well as support for Sense controllers. Like all of the other FNAF games, Help Wanted boasts plenty of jump scares, which are unsurprisingly a thousand times more terrifying when experienced in VR. As such, those who scare easily may want to give this one a miss, or at least refrain from playing when they’re home alone.

Help Wanted 2 is everything that one could ever hope for in a sequel. It doesn’t waste time or resources trying to completely reinvent the wheel, instead offering more of what made the original game so enjoyable. There are some technical improvements too, mind, with the visuals looking a lot crisper than they did in the game’s 2019 predecessor.

Although the game may appear like little more than a collection of mini-games on the surface, there’s actually a fairly enjoyable storyline for players to unearth. Like many of the best PSVR 2 games, it’s a relatively short title when compared to its flat-screen counterparts, but the replayability of the aforementioned mini-games more than makes up for this.

24 Arashi: Castles of Sin – Final Cut

OpenCritic Rating: 51

best-psvr-2-arashi

Like many of the best PS5 VR games, Arashi: Castles of Sin – Final Cut is an enhanced port of a PSVR title, and it really shows, in both good ways and bad. Though certainly sharper, the visuals are decidedly last-gen and the AI can at times be a little bonkers, but the positives definitely outweigh the negatives here.

The game’s cutscenes are incredibly immersive and the PSVR 2’s superior tracking ensures that the gameplay is better than ever. The well-honed melee combat can make players feel like sword-fighting savants, while the wonderfully well-designed levels deserve to be fully explored and will often reward those who endeavor to do so.

23 The Light Brigade

OpenCritic Rating: 80

The Light Brigade

The Light Brigade was a launch title for the PSVR 2, yet somehow managed to fly under most people’s radars. That’s a real shame, as this challenging yet rewarding roguelite is incredibly moreish, allowing players to sink hour after hour into countless runs without ever noticing how much time has passed.

The visuals are nothing to write home about, yet the construction of the game’s world allows for a surprising amount of immersion, which is backed up by solid gunplay and excellent audio design. It’s one of the best PlayStation VR2 games on the market in this respect and can usually be snapped up for a fairly reasonable price.

Creed Rise To Glory PSVR Gameplay

Playing VR games can be a great way to keep in shape, as it allows players to get their heart pumping without ever having to leave the house. Many people turn to rhythm games to get their daily dose of exercise, but there are other options available for those looking for something a bit less musical.

As one might surmise from the title, Creed: Rise to Glory – Championship Edition is a boxing game and is arguably the best in its weight division. The game features plenty of familiar faces and a Rocky Balboa-themed career mode, It even supports online multiplayer, allowing players to go toe-to-toe with people from all over the world.

synapse-reload

Synapse is one of those games that can make players feel like they’re truly unstoppable. The gunplay is highly satisfying and the telekinetic powers feel like they were ripped straight out of a Star Wars movie. Together, these two mechanics combine perfectly and are a big part of what helps Synapse stand out so vividly from the crowd.

The premise of the game is quite simple, with players needing to defeat waves of enemies as they travel from room to room. In that sense, it’s a fairly standard roguelite experience, but the aforementioned combat mechanics, all-star voice cast, and fantastic use of colors help to elevate the experience quite a bit.

20 Demeo

OpenCritic Rating: 81

Two figures on a battlefield in Demeo

Demeo is a tabletop RPG that takes much of its inspiration from Dungeons & Dragons. It features tight card-based gameplay, a boatload of content, and a wide selection of magical creatures and spells for players to enjoy. Better still, the game supports up to four-player multiplayer; which is something of a rarity in VR outside of FPS games.

Many see Demeo as a decent entry point for the genre, as although there’s plenty of depth to the gameplay it remains fairly easy to understand. That’s not to say that D&D veterans won’t also be able to have fun with what’s on offer here though, with each floor providing its own unique challenges for players to overcome.

No Man's Sky Multiplayer

After a somewhat rocky launch, No Man’s Sky has evolved into one of the best space exploration games ever made. Thanks to a series of free updates and expansions, it now boasts far more functionality than was promised pre-launch and continues to get new features even to this day.

VR implementation is admittedly a little hit-and-miss, with some elements working much better than others and the visuals being a little all over the place at times. However, the game still ranks highly among the best PSVR 2 games on account of just how much content it now has to offer.

18 Beat Saber

Beat Saber slicing blue block

Due largely to how different their respective controllers are, a lot of the best PSVR games still haven’t made their way over to the PSVR 2. Thankfully, Beat Saber is no longer one of them, with the popular rhythm game finally becoming available in May of 2023 a few months on from the launch of Sony’s second-generation VR headset.

Although there were a few tracking issues around the time of the game’s launch, these have mostly been ironed out, allowing PSVR 2 players to experience what many consider to be the best virtual reality rhythm game on the market. Better still, those who owned the PSVR version effectively get a free upgrade and are able to carry over any DLC they may have purchased.

17 Synth Riders: Remastered Edition

OpenCritic Rating: 87

Synth riders (1)

Beat Saber isn’t the only PSVR rhythm game that made its way to the PSVR 2. In fact, Synth Riders did it first, with the game’s remastered edition serving as one of the many launch titles for the system. This gave it a huge advantage over its rival, with many people deciding to jump ship due to the lack of information about when exactly Beat Saber would finally arrive.

To suggest that Beat Saber‘s tardiness is the only reason for Synth Riders‘ success would be doing both the game and its developer a massive disservice though. The dance-oriented title is one of the best around and provides players with an excellent workout. The experiences are particularly enjoyable and well worth the price of admission.

16 Before Your Eyes

OpenCritic Rating: 83

The ferryman in before your eyes

Before Your Eyes not only acknowledges the fact that life can be fleeting, but also uses this idea as its central mechanic. Thanks to the PSVR 2’s gaze tracking, the story progresses each time the player blinks, allowing them to observe an entire lifetime in just a few short hours. The story it tells is a touching one and will likely have players trying to force their eyes to stay open as they begin to well up with tears.

To be clear, the PSVR 2 version of Before Your Eyes is far from the definitive version, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not worth the player’s time or money. In fact, despite a few shortcomings, it still manages to be one of the best games for the PSVR 2 and is definitely worth checking out given both its modest price tag and its short length.

15 Horizon Call of the Mountain

OpenCritic Rating: 80

Kaval and Hami rowing Ryas

Horizon Call of the Mountain is the game that most PSVR 2 owners will crank out when they want to show their friends and family the incredible potential of the platform. The gameplay is intuitive and does an excellent job of showcasing exactly what the PSVR 2 and its Sense controllers are capable of. Everything looks fantastic, too, from the beautifully rendered environments to the characters with whom the player gets to interact.

Some people will perhaps see Horizon Call of the Mountain as little more than a glorified tech demo, and while this is arguably the game’s primary purpose, there’s still an awful lot of fun to be had. Granted, it’s probably not a game that players will ever want to come back to after fully completing it and the climbing mechanics can be a little jarring at times, but it’s still a must-play title for all PSVR 2 owners, particularly those who are fans of the Horizon franchise.

0_0002_PokerStars VR

The PSVR 2’s library of games boasts plenty of great multiplayer titles, but none really highlight the social capabilities of the hardware quite as well as PokerStars VR. It fills a rather large gaping hole that’s left by the absence of a VRChat-style experience, with Sony seemingly reluctant to support VRChat on the platform due to some of its user-generated content.

hubris-psvr2

There are some great-looking games on the PSVR 2, but not all of them are able to back this up with a solid gameplay experience. Hubris manages to nail both aspects, serving up one of the most immersive gaming experiences that the PSVR 2 has to offer. The shooting is tight, the platforming is forgiving, and the underwater sections are truly awe-inspiring.

Where the game does struggle a little is in the storytelling department, leading to a narrative that is far more shallow than that aforementioned water. It’s this that holds Hubris back from achieving true greatness, but even then, it really doesn’t fall too far short of that mark. It’s the game’s incredible visuals that will draw players in, but a desire to see what comes next that will keep them there.

12 Ultrawings 2

Given how utterly disappointing the highly anticipated PSVR 2 port of Project Wingman: Frontline 59 ended up being, Ultrawings 2 came as a breath of fresh air. It swooped in out of nowhere, with even the game’s developers Bit Planet Games unaware that it would be getting shadow-dropped in early 2024.

Rather than targeting an ultra-realistic flight sim experience, the developers instead aimed to impress players with colorful visuals and easy-to-understand mechanics and the game is arguably all the better for this decision. It would be nice to see a good example of the former on the platform eventually, but for now, Ultrawings 2 is easily the best flying game available for the PSVR 2.

Metro Awakening Cropped

Metro Awakening is one of the most immersive games on the PSVR 2. Its visuals are impressive, the sound design is top-notch, and the gameplay takes full advantage of the VR technology that’s driving it. There are times when players will be so gripped by fear that they might even forget that they’re playing a video game; albeit, just for a brief moment.

Things do begin to get repetitive after a while, and the enemy AI leaves a lot to be desired, but those first few hours alone are well worth the price of admission. Series fans should definitely be checking this one out, but even for those who are new to the franchise, Metro Awakening offers one of the best FPS survival experiences on the PSVR 2.

A mini-golf course built along snowy mountains in Walkabout Mini Golf VR

If miniature golf is a sport, then Walkabout Mini Golf is the best VR sports game ever made. In fact, there may even be an argument to be made for it being one of the best sports games, period, at least when it comes to pure unadulterated fun. That it also supports eight-player multiplayer is a nice bonus, as playing with friends is a big part of what makes actual mini-golf so enjoyable.

The base version of the game features eight 18-hole courses, with more being added via the Whole in One bundle. There are collectibles and unlockables too, encouraging players to explore every nook and cranny. The game even supports crossplay, allowing PSVR 2 players to team up with their PC-playing counterparts should they ever wish to do so.

9 Tetris Effect: Connected

OpenCritic Rating: 89

tetris effect connected triangle stage

Tetris Effect: Connected is one of the best multiplayer games on the PlayStation 5. With this in mind, it’s easy to see why the developers opted to add PSVR 2 support, yet the brilliance of the end result will likely come as a surprise to many. It’s one of the most singular experiences on the platform, with the audio and visuals combining perfectly with the gameplay to delight the player’s senses.

At times it can be extremely relaxing, others, unceremoniously stressful, but it’s almost always a lot of fun. Haptic feedback from the PSVR 2 headset only adds to the experience, as too do the stunning backgrounds that cycle past as players clear more and more lines. It’s just a shame that Enhance Games didn’t offer a proper upgrade path for those who already have access to the PS4 version of the game through PS Plus Extra.

8 Moss

OpenCritic Rating: 85

best-psvr-2-games-moss

When it was released in early 2018, Moss was one of the standout titles for the original PSVR. Five years on, the game’s PSVR 2 version is every bit as compelling; if not more so, with enhanced visuals and much tighter controls helping to breathe new life into this ever-charming adventure puzzle game. That said, it is still a relatively short affair, with players able to complete everything in under ten hours.
