The Best Characters In The Sims 4 Life & Death Expansion

Key Takeaways

  • Radwan Gomes is the first Sim to experience reincarnation with a unique trait.
  • Tziporah Gomes overcame death with ambrosia. Now she helps others in ghost form.
  • Kai Aether, a stubborn ghost, is coming to terms with his new existence.

The Sims 4: Life & Death is chock-full of death, but it is also filled with life. Go figure. Where Sims have plenty of new things to do with death, life takes center stage in the form of tons of new NPCs.

The residents of Ravenwood are a mix of old and new. Some are classic characters returning to the series, while others are newcomers, but all of them fit perfectly into Ravenwood’s story. Get to know these denizens of death right here, right now. These are the best NPCs in The Sims 4: Life & Death.

10 Radwan Gomes

A Sim Reborn

Radwan Gomes sits at a computer desk.

On the surface, Radwan Gomes is just another Sim. He’s a mild-mannered family man who just wants to love his wife and be the best father he can be. Everything about him seems quite average. But there’s a vitality to Radwan – almost as if he has more life to live than most.

Radwan Gomes is the very first Sim in the series to have undergone reincarnation. While we know nothing about his past life, he has the Burning Soul trait to prove it. Radwan’s serenity becomes more than him just being chill – it is a sign of the amazing path his soul has taken.

9 Tziporah Gomes

Death Into Life

A female Sim gossips with Esther Gomes, a purple ghost.

Tziporah Gomes wasn’t always the mild-mannered mother and writer. Once upon a time, she was as dead as a doornail. Tziporah got her hands on some ambrosia and was able to come back from the dead.

As a former ghost, Tziporah is very focused on helping other ghosts return to life. This positivity can be grating, as her sister can tell you. Tziporah’s main conflict is her failing relationship with sister Esther, as Esther has no desire to return to life. Tziporah is a fascinating character as somebody who has come back from the dead, and she offers a plot thread in resolving her conflict with Esther.

8 Ekade Aether

Long-Suffering Spouse Of A Specter

Ekade Aether stand sadly next to his ghost husband, Kai.

One of the main themes of the Life & Death expansion is grief and how Sims deal with it. Ekade Aether is a character who embodies dealing with grief. A very normal man in his own right, Ekade’s life has been turned upside down by the death of his husband…and in his husband coming back from the dead.

Most ghosts have unique effects and animations relating to their cause of death. We take a look at them all in this guide.

Despite Kai still being around, Ekade is endeavoring to help his son, Takama, through grief. Many of his Ravenwood Rumors focus around him getting therapy for himself, Kai, and Takama. While the ghost occult state means that grief looks different to Sims, Ekade is a character meant to show how its important for everyone to process grief.

7 Kai Aether

The Whole Being Dead Thing

A female Sim offers a Tarot reading to Kai Aether.

Sims are notoriously fragile creatures. They can and will die at the drop of a hat. Kai Aether knows more about that than anyone – or he would, were he not in denial. Kai Aether is a Sim who has met a fatal fate…and refuses to accept it.

Kai is a ghost who refuses to believe he’s a ghost. He even erects an angry sign in his yard telling ghosts to keep away. Ultimately, however, Kai is working on accepting his new state of being for the sake of his family, and that’s heartwarming. Even the most stubborn ghosts can change.

6 Edith

Seven Days, Simmer

An angry ghost girl named Edith stands in the woods.

It wouldn’t be a ghost-focused expansion without some ghosts running around. While most of the ghosts in Life & Death are as friendly as they were in life, there’s one in particular that has become a local menace. This is Edith, the well-haunting ghost of Crow’s Crossing.

Edith is a homage to the Ring’s Sadako, a ghost who is famously trapped in a well. Edith is less murderous than Sadako, but she will still horrify any Sims who go near her well. Edith can be befriended by the bravest Sim and can even offer a boon to those brave souls – but she can curse them just the same.

5 Nyon Specter

Nervous Subject To Angsty Teen

A sarcastic looking teenager with tattoos stands in front of a door.

An entire article could be written about the life and times of Nervous Subject, the Sims 2’s favorite punching bag. Originally introduced in Strangetown, Nervous Subject was the adopted test subject of the Beakers. Prying into his memories, though, would reveal he had ties to one Olive Specter and… the Grim Reaper.

The Sims is filled to the brim with iconic characters. Which ones should make the leap to the silver screen?

In this timeline, Nervous was never taken away by social services. Nyon (as he is known here) is merely the sarcastic son of Olive and the Grim Reaper, which has confirmed twenty years of speculation. Nyon can be difficult to interact with, but at least he’s happy here – or as happy as a gothy teen can be.

4 Lady Ravendancer Goth

The Founder Of Magic

Olive Specter and Lady Ravendancer Goth talk over chess.

It wouldn’t be a gothic expansion without a member of the Goth family. Lady Ravendancer Goth has been seen in the series before, most notably in objects purchasable in the Sims 3 store. But this marks her first ‘in the flesh’ appearance in the franchise. Er, as in the flesh as a ghost can be, that is.

Lady Ravendancer is the founder of Ravenwood, although she herself would dispute that fact. She can be summoned by collecting all the cards in her tarot deck, which can be found scattered around Ravenwood. For those with Realm Of Magic installed, Lady Ravendancer is notably the first official Sim to have two occult states. Neat!

3 Layne Coffin

Mr. Olive Specter

Olive Specter and Layne Coffin kiss in Olive's graveyard.

One of the hallmarks of Olive Specter’s backstory is that she’s been married and then widowed by men with death-related names. Earl E. DeMise, Hugh Thanasia’s Husband, Rigger Mortis – Olive’s dated them all. At first, Layne Coffin seems like just another target – uh, beloved fiance.

As it turns out, Layne is more than just a notch in Olive’s belt: he’s completely feral. Layne is actually an Evil Sim in disguise, and he wants to become a ghost. Olive is apparently going to ‘help him’ cross over. It’s rare that somebody could match Olive Specter’s energy, but Layne might just be it.

2 Alice

The Lamenting Mother

Alice, a ghost woman, talks to a female Sim.

Not every haunting is a happy one. Ghost stories across the world revolve around a weeping female ghost searching for her lost loved ones. Whether she’s a mysterious woman in white or Mexico’s wailing La Llorona, lost female spirits are the typical bread and butter of ghost stories. Ravenwood, as it turns out, has one too.

What does your future hold? Look into the cards to find out.

Alice is the Weeping Mother of Mourningvale. She searches for her lost children (very much like La Llorona) and can give players a quest to help her. Those who do will be able to put Alice’s spirit at rest, and will be able to learn a little more about the town of Ravenwood.

1 Olive Specter

Queen Of The Dead

Olive Specter ponders a grave in her backyard.

Olive Specter has been one of the icons of the Sims 2 since 2004. Introduced as a mysterious woman living in a graveyard filled with people she likely murdered, Olive served as one of the truly malicious Sims in the series. She was recreated by Maxis in the Sims 4 gallery, but Life & Death marks her true return to the series.

Ravenwood’s Olive is much the same, with a few crucial differences. Here, Olive got to raise her son Nyon and settled down to serve as a mortician in a small town. She’s quite normal now. Sure, her graveyard is still filled with dead husbands, and she’s going to ‘help’ her fiancé become a ghost. But we’re sure that’s all above board. Go visit Olive’s garden for yourselves and see how harmless she is. It’ll be fine.
