Each of these Archetypes also has a focus on a specific attribute. Some are more focused on strength or magic, while others are more centered on agility or luck. With the Agility-based Archetypes, you’ll be able to move as swiftly as the wind to deal damage to your enemies from afar, or up close and personal.

7 Thief

The Thief Archetype in Metaphor: ReFantazio.

The Thief is the initial Archetype in the Thief lineage, and you get it from the loveable, gruff Eugief, Heismay. The Thief will be your introduction to the darkness element, with skills like Dark Sword and Mudo.

You can also utilize its skills to steal items, HP, and MP from enemies, which is unique to this lineage. The Thief is a great starting point for this lineage and teaches you the skills and tactics you will be employing as you progress in the line.

6 Sniper

The Sniper Archetype in Metaphor: ReFantazio.

The Sniper is the adept Archetype in the Gunner lineage. It is by no means bad, or worse than the Gunner. They simply use different methods, with one being more focused on single-targets and statuses, and the other focused on multi-target moves.

Can you only have one best friend?

With the Sniper, you’ll be trading off the status-inflicting attacks of the Gunner for lots of multi-hitting options. This includes skills like Wild Salvo, which will let you do weak piercing damage to all enemies two to three times. The damage you can output at one time with the Sniper is small, but by combining multiple snipers attacking many times per turn, you have some very solid multi-target damage.

5 Assassin

The Assassin Archetype in Metaphor: ReFantazio.

The adept Archetype in the Thief lineage, the Assassin upgrades the Thief from a sly, sneaky rat to a full-fledged killer for hire. You will lose access to the HP-stealing ability, but in return gain access to more ways of killing enemies and restoring your own MP.

You’ll still get to use Steal to take rare items from enemies, as well as a nice passive that will let you get items from enemies defeated in overworld combat. With Lurking Nightblade and Assassinate, you also get some high-damage darkness skills that have the chance of instant-killing non-boss enemies.

4 Gunner

The Gunner Archetype in Metaphor: ReFantazio.

The Gunner is the initial Archetype in the Gunner lineage, obtained from your trusty Ishkia pilot Neuras, who is one of the most fun followers/bonds. The Gunner lineage forces you to head to the back lines, which is a small price to pay for the multitude of status ailment-inflicting attacks you gain access to.

With skills like Sleep Shot, Poison Shot, and Hex Shot, you’ll be able to, well…poison, sleep, and hex your foes, with minimal risk, as well as dishing out solid damage at the same time. As an early-game Archetype, the Gunner is one of the best.

3 Dragoon

The Dragoon Archetype in Metapor: ReFantazio.

As much as we love the utility of the Gunner and its status ailments, the Dragoon simply offers unparalleled elemental damage for agility-based Archetypes. The Dragoon is the Elite, and therefore, the final, Archetype in the Gunner lineage, taking the tactics of multi-target attacks from the Sniper and adding some elemental flare to them.

Rather than being weak piercing attacks, they can now inflict medium electric damage to all enemies two to three times with Feather Dragonshoot, or fire damage with Redfeather Dragonshoot. Of course, the Mage classes are the best for elemental damage, but in the realm of agility Archetypes, being able to dish out elemental damage to every enemy multiple times, as well as having access to fire, ice, and electric, makes Dragoon an incredible choice.

2 Royal Thief

The Royal Thief in Metaphor: ReFantazio.

The Royal Thief is the ultimate Archetype of Heismay. It gives you a solid mix of the abilities and skills from the Thief, Assassin, and Ninja, and while it is great, it’s not as good as the Ninja.

Or at least, the cost isn’t necessarily worth it. Getting the Royal Archetypes requires a lot of grinding, and the Royal Thief may be the one that requires the most, needing you to max out multiple different lineages and Archetypes. You still get Steal, Adamant, and Plasma Nightblade, and some solid evasion passives, but the Ninja almost the same amount.

1 Ninja

The Ninja Archetype in Metaphor: ReFantazio.

Ninja is the elite Archetype for the Thief lineage and offers the best the lineage has at its disposal, outside of the Royal Thief. Hazy Moon Nightblade is one of the more unique offerings it has, doing strong slash damage to all enemies, but if they have a status ailment, it will act as if they are weak to slashing.

This makes it pair perfectly with the Gunner Archetype, which can easily inflict status ailments and is easily obtained on every character, being a basic Archetype. So you can have multiple party members with Gunner, or skills inherited from the Gunner, and then deal weak damage to all enemies with the Ninja. Besides that, it also allows you to inflict rage on enemies, and has the same dodging capabilities as the Royal Thief, except every party member can access it.
