Star Rail's Lead with New 5-Star Characters

Key Takeaways

  • Fans hope for enhanced forms for Genshin Impact’s 5-star characters like in Honkai: Star Rail.
  • Recent additions, Citlali and Ororon, are on Limited Character Banner until Dec 10.
  • Suggestions point to Kaeya and Ningguang as potential candidates for 5-star upgrades.

Genshin Impact fans hope that upcoming five-star characters might receive similar treatment to how Honkai: Star Rail introduces some of its new playable units. Since Genshin Impact‘s release in 2020, developer HoYoverse has introduced new playable characters with every update, expanding the roster to over 90 units.

The most recent additions to the roster are the five-star Anemo user Citlali and the new four-star Electro support Ororon. Both characters are currently featured on the ongoing Limited Character Banner, which is scheduled to expire around December 10. Since Ororon is a four-star character, players can obtain both new units by wishing on the same banner.

A Genshin Impact chart shows the revenue difference between the two currently featured five-stars: the new Anemo user Chasca and the Pyro DPS Lyney.

Even though Genshin Impact is widely considered HoYoverse’s most popular title, various revenue reports reveal that Honkai: Star Rail often outperforms it in monthly banner sales. Fans speculate that one reason behind this could be Honkai: Star Rail‘s innovative approach to introducing new playable units. Some of Honkai’s five-star characters are enhanced versions of existing four-star units. A post on the official Genshin Impact subreddit has gained significant attention, with players requesting HoYoverse to adopt a similar approach to Genshin Impact. Many believe that several characters would benefit from receiving improved forms.

Honkai Star Rail Reintroduces Four-Star Characters With Five-Star Versions

One way Honkai: Star Rail reintroduces four-star characters is by changing their Paths, which function as character classes. For instance, Dan Heng is a four-star character following Honkai: Star Rail‘s Path of The Hunt and wielding Wind element abilities. His improved five-star version, Imbibitor Lunae, belongs to the Destruction Path and deals Imaginary damage. While Genshin Impact does not have a Path system, it does feature elemental powers, which could be modified in a character’s new form.

According to fan discussions, the most requested character to receive this treatment is Kaeya, one of the free four-star units given to players early in their Genshin Impact journey. Fans have proposed that Kaeya should get an upgraded form when Genshin Impact‘s mysterious Khaenri’ah region becomes available. Although Kaeya is a fan-favorite character story-wise, he struggles to compete with other units in terms of on-field potential.

In addition to the original free units, players have also suggested Ningguang as a strong candidate for a five-star version. This four-star Geo user is considered one of Genshin Impact‘s most powerful characters in terms of lore. Many fans suspect that Ningguang’s status as a four-star unit is due to her introduction during the game’s early development stages.
