STALKER 2 Mod Makes Big Improvement to Movement

STALKER 2 Mod Makes Big Improvement to Movement

Key Takeaways

  • A recent STALKER 2 mod added the ability to climb any ledge that’s just above head height to the game.
  • Being able to parkour across the Zone significantly streamlines exploration and helps in combat.
  • While a recent STALKER 2 update broke the parkour mod, there’s already an unofficial fix for getting it up and running again.

A recently released STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl mod adds the ability to climb much higher ledges than what the vanilla game allows. This simple change greatly improves STALKER 2‘s movement, thus having a profound impact on both exploration and combat.

The long-awaited fourth entry in GSC Game World’s immersive sim series was released for the Xbox Series X/S and PC on November 20. Although STALKER 2 is planned to offer comprehensive mod support, it launched without an official toolkit for making custom content. However, that didn’t stop some tinkerers from starting to create add-ons from day one.

STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl Reaches Big Sales Milestone

GSC Game World announces that STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl has reached a major sales milestone in less than 48 hours after launch.

In yet another example of this trend, STALKER 2 has recently received a mod that allows players to climb much taller structures than in the base game. The add-on is called Ledge Grabbing by Kennymylenny, after the Nexus Mods user who created it. The mod makes Skif able to grab onto any ledge that’s just above head height, making movement across the Zone a lot easier. This ability significantly changes how the game plays, allowing players to essentially parkour their way through the Zone. Aside from streamlining exploration, parkour is also useful in combat, whether for running away, finding cover, or helping Skif get to an optimal sniping spot.

STALKER 2 Parkour Mod Is Lore-Friendly

Reflecting on this creation on Nexus Mods, Kennymylenny noted that Skif’s inability to climb something like a small fence just didn’t make sense, given the protagonist’s background as an ex-military soldier. This mod can hence be considered compatible with the STALKER 2 lore, aligning Skif’s abilities with what players would reasonably expect from his character.

Recent STALKER 2 Update Broke the Parkour Mod, But There’s a Fix

Ledge Grabbing by Kennymylenny was originally released on November 25, five days following the game’s debut. GSC has put out two STALKER 2 updates since then, the first of which appears to have broken the add-on. Although its original creator has yet to update the mod to work on the latest version of the game, Nexus Mods user m5holmez has already done so, sharing their modified file over on the mod’s discussion boards.

Installing this STALKER 2 mod is as simple as unzipping an archive and moving its contents over to the game’s add-on folder, found in its installation location under “S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Heart of Chornobyl\Stalker2\Content\Paks\~mods.” More useful STALKER 2 mods are expected to start cropping up as soon as GSC releases its official modding toolkit. The Ukrainian developer has also previously committed to offering mod support on consoles, presumably by delivering a curated selection of community content.
