Prior to Wrath of the Lich King, the second expansion for World of Warcraft, there weren’t many dragon mounts, except for the Netherwing mounts and any of the Gladiator mounts from Arena seasons in The Burning Crusade. But with the release of Wrath of the Lich King, dragon mounts became more commonplace.
From purchasable rewards at a Quartermaster to rare drops in dungeons, both regular drake mounts and the newly introduced Proto-drake mounts added more variety to what players could fly across Northrend and Outland on. For players who spent a lot of time raiding, there were also mounts for them to chase as well. One such mount was the Azure Drake, a unique looking blue dragon mount that couldn’t be found anywhere else at the time. Here is how you can get the Azure Drake.

How to Get the Azure Drake in World of Warcraft
The Azure Drake is a low drop rate from the Eye of Eternity, a raid located in Coldarra. Coldarra is located in Borean Tundra, a zone in Northrend. The Eye of Eternity only has one boss, and it drops from either the 10 or 25-player version of the raid.
If you are at least Level 45-50+, you will have no trouble soloing Malygos in Eye of Eternity. Make sure you are not using Chromie Time on that character, as otherwise, you will be unable to enter the Eye of Eternity until Chromie Time is off.
Malygos is pretty straightforward. Once you do enough damage to him, he will fly up into the air and become invulnerable. At that time, you have to kill the adds flying around. If you are a melee class, you will need to use the discs to fly up to the adds that are still alive. Once all the adds are dead, Malygos will destroy the platform and you will end up on a drake mount that acts like a vehicle. If you did enough damage, Malygos will have little to no health left and all you need to do is press ‘1’ to finish of Malygos.
The drop rate for the Azure Drake is a little over one percent, so it may take time to get this mount. In addition to the Azure Drake, Malygos can also drop the Blue Drake as well on both difficulties. Eye of Eternity can only be completed once per week per character.
Is There Another Way to Get the Azure Drake?
If you have a lot of gold to burn, there is a way that you can potentially get the Azure Drake without parking a bunch of characters outside the Eye of Eternity. The location changes on an expansion-to-expansion basis, but the Black Market Auction House will periodically sell rare mounts. Raid mounts like the Azure Drake and Ashes of Al’ar have a chance of being sold as well, and you can potentially see even rarer mounts like the Swift Zulian Tiger being sold.
The main drawback to this plan is that you will never know ahead of time what is going to be sold on any given day. Even then, rare mounts will cause expensive bidding wars. While obtainable mounts like the Azure Drake won’t go up to the gold cap, be prepared to drop a lot of gold if you see the Azure Drake on the Black Market Auction House and try to win it.
