While Rook recruits Taash to fight blighted dragons in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the quest “Fire and Ice” leaves a bad taste in their mouth. That bad taste leads directly to Taash’s companion quest, “Slaying the Fangscorcher.”
To unlock this quest, you must complete “Fire and Ice,” along with all of Taash’s earlier companion quests. If “Fangscorcher” isn’t ready to start when you return to the Lighthouse at this point, now is a good time to complete Taash’s earlier quests. If that’s not the problem, exit and reenter the Lighthouse until you see an exclamation point in Taash’s room.

Where to Find All the Collectibles in Slaying the Fangscorcher
The path to the Fangscorcher High Dragon is mostly linear, and the fights are few in number, but there are still some collectibles you can miss if you don’t pay attention to all the nooks and crannies along the way.
- As you enter the tall building you need to climb up, turn left and smash through some crates. There’s a small chest hidden behind them.
- After the first jump of the tall building climb, avoid the second stairs and go right. There’s a hole in the floor you can fall through to reach a large chest and a Memento. To leave this area, pull the lever to the left of the gate.
- At the top of the tall building, there’s a large chest to the right of the way forward.
- In the area with the Antaam fight, you can find a Memento hidden under some crates next to a health jar. There’s also a large chest by the larger pillar, and a small chest next to the doors forward. The item you need to find in this area is on a crate at the south end of the area.
- After the Fangscorcher fight, point yourself at the treasure hoard room, then move clockwise around the arena. There’s a small chest hidden in the shadows.
- The Fangscorcher’s hoard includes three small chests, one large chest, one Memento, one Codex item, and a Timelost Hoard chest. You can also find plenty of smaller pickups hidden in all the gold piles.
How to Beat the Fangscorcher
By Dragon Age: The Veilguard standards, the Fangscorcher is a relatively easy High Dragon fight. She has no armor, no barrier, no minions, and she shares most of her moves with other High Dragons, especially during her first phase. As expected of a fire dragon, she resists fire but is vulnerable to cold.
- She can deliver a single attack with any leg, her head, her tail, or her wings.
- She can charge at her target.
- She can perform a charging tackle at her target.
- She can spit fireballs at her target. Only one if she’s on the ground, or three in a row if she’s flying.
- She can fly up and slam the ground beneath her in a large radius.
Once you remove a third of the Fangscorcher’s health, she’ll retreat to a stone platform. Her first attack is two sets of three fireball projectiles, and unlike her normal fireballs, these track towards the player. You can block these projectiles, but if your blocking resource is low, you can avoid them by running diagonally towards the dragon. Her final attack is a swarm of random fire explosions that land all across the battlefield. While the fire is raining down, keep on the move and avoid red circles.
The Fangscorcher repeats this projectile attack when her health drops by two-thirds. She also gains a couple of new attacks for her second and third phases.
- A sweeping horizontal breath weapon with a long range (you can dodge below it if you aren’t fast enough to get out of the way).
- A punishing vertical beam that slices into whomever is standing in front of it.
- An attack where she flies into the air and creates three long walls of flame with her breath weapon. These flame walls last for a solid amount of time, and can make it hard to move easily across the battlefield.
Defeating the Fangscorcher gives you 1,000 XP on the spot, along with +200 Lords of Fortune Strength. You can then follow Taash to loot the dragon’s hoard, and then speak to Taash to conclude the quest. Since you got so much from earlier in the quest, your only reward on the “Quest Complete!” screen is a bond increase and +100 Lords of Fortune Strength.
