Viral, brutal multiplayer game Liar’s Bar adds new mode with a chaotic twist

Forget Black Ops 6 and Counter-Strike 2 – the most vicious, deadly multiplayer game to go viral on Steam in 2024 is a dark test of your mental fortitude and bluffing skills. Joining the likes of Buckshot Roulette in the life-and-death, high-stakes format, Liar’s Bar pits four players against one another in a dangerous game of dice or cards. Already soaring to dramatic heights with a peak player count of 113,798 active users, Curve Animation has continued to polish Liar’s Bar since launch, and its newest update is the most dramatic yet.

Liar’s Bar delivers the iconic multiplayer game of Liar’s Dice that Rockstar so cruelly withheld from us in Red Dead Redemption 2, and combines it with Liar’s Cards – a variant of the card game most commonly known as Cheat. The twist is that whenever another player successfully calls you out on a sneaky move, you must play a round of Russian Roulette. If their claim was mistaken, however, it’s them who must pull the trigger instead.

The latest Liar’s Bar update opens the doors to a new location, the Arcade Bar, where you can meet a fresh set of patrons. It also introduces another playable character, Kudo the Red Panda, and gives Foxy a new outfit. But the biggest addition is the much-requested Chaos mode. This new ruleset ramps up the tension to another level by introducing an alternate way to play the game with two powerful new cards.

In Chaos mode, each player holds three cards, and only one can be played per turn. If you correctly call out another player as a liar and turn over the Master card, you get to choose who to shoot at, bringing a whole new and more personal element to proceedings. If instead the Chaos card is flipped, every player at the table points their weapons at another. Will you try to form a fragile alliance in an attempt to survive this Mexican standoff, or let the cards fall as they may and hope for the best?

The new update also introduces host migration, meaning that if the hosting player dips out your game won’t be prematurely brought to a close. The lobby has also been rebuilt with a new look and fresh character animations. There’s more dialogue to discover, which should also help you learn more about each player’s backstory, and a choice of additional card back designs if you fancy a different deck.

Curve Animation’s continued updates to its simple but effective premise are clearly paying off. Already boasting a 92% overall Steam user rating from more than 26,000 reviews, the recent score over the past 30 days has now climbed to 95%. That puts it in Steam’s highest category, the elusive ‘overwhelmingly positive.’ If you’re eager to try your luck, the ongoing autumn Steam sale is an ideal chance to do so at a discount.

The Arcade Bar has opened its doors in the new Liar’s Bar update, out now on Steam. You can buy the game at a 20% discount until Wednesday December 4, so expect to pay just $5.59 / £4.71 to get in on the action. Do so here – but keep your wits about you if you want to come out ahead.
