Warner Bros. is in a bit of a tough spot right now, especially in the world of video games. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League marked a $200 million loss for WB, and MultiVersus reportedly failed to meet internal expectations as well. Warner Bros. is in desperate need of a win soon, and a Hogwarts Legacy sequel would probably be just the ticket.




Last year’s Hogwarts Legacy may not have been a perfect open-world action-adventure game, but it laid some very strong foundations for any potential sequels or spinoffs that could come from it. That said, there’s still a lot that could be added in a Hogwarts Legacy sequel, and one potential feature could be spells that are exclusive to each of Hogwarts’ four Houses. But putting House-exclusive spells in Hogwarts Legacy 2 would have its fair share of both positives and negatives.

House-Exclusive Spells Can Further Cement Each House’s Identity

Adding House-exclusive spells to a potential Hogwarts Legacy sequel could give the game’s developers a great opportunity to further cement the identity of each Hogwarts House. Each spell could be a representation of the House’s core values and overarching personality.


For instance, a Hufflepuff-exclusive spell could see the player enlist the help of nearby animals, thus showing the House’s inherent bond with nature. A Slytherin spell could be a simple piece of destruction magic, representing the House’s aggression and willingness to use violence as a first resort. Ravenclaw could have some sort of invisibility spell that assists with stealth, representing the House’s cunning and intelligence. And Gryffindor’s spell could be some kind of powerful defense magic that shields allies and deflects projectiles, representing the House’s selflessness.

House-Exclusive Spells Can Encourage Replayability

Introducing House-exclusive spells to Hogwarts Legacy 2 could also encourage fans to embark on repeat playthroughs, with each one unlocking a magical ability. Repeat playthroughs could also be further incentivized if these House-exclusive spells came alongside exclusive companion quests, in a similar vein to the first game’s Unforgivable Curse questline. Though, to be enough of an incentive, these quests would need to feature not just a compelling story, but also unique gameplay scenarios, as otherwise many fans would simply watch the quests online.


Not Everyone Will Want to Replay Hogwarts Legacy 2 Three Times

But a major argument against a Hogwarts Legacy sequel adding House-exclusive spells is that not everyone will want to spend the time going back through the game and unlocking them. If the potential sequel is anything like the first Hogwarts Legacy, its main campaign could take over 25 hours, meaning that players would need to put in a significant grind if they wanted to unlock the spells for every House.

And if players don’t feel like collecting all four House-exclusive spells is a feasible goal for them, they might start to feel as though they’re being locked out of content. The first Hogwarts Legacy already struggled a little with that criticism for including House-exclusive quests, and they were only short adventures that didn’t really affect the wider narrative or gameplay loop. Introducing gameplay-changing mechanics and locking them behind repeat playthroughs might not sit well with some fans.
