A pair of Stardew Valley players found themselves stuck in the game after a “bullying” incident between them. The Stardew Valley community has come to the rescue, offering ways for them to get out of this softlock, but it’s nonetheless an amusing moment and a good warning for newcomers to never leave helpful tools behind.
Stardew Valley is pretty forgiving of mistakes, as users can always choose to restart the day by either reloading a save or quitting and restarting. However, that doesn’t mean that players have never run into problems. Some fans have been dismayed to realize that they’ve missed an entire season in Stardew Valley due to falling asleep, for example, while others have also shared their stories of forgetting their tools and regretting it.

Stardew Valley Player Gets Super Rare Item After 1,500 Hours
A Stardew Valley player obtains an incredibly rare item in the game after playing the popular farming sim for over 1,500 hours.
A similar situation happened with Reddit user Basiruma, who shared their plight with the Stardew Valley community. Though they didn’t specify how, Basiruma says that they were “bullying” their friend in Stardew Valley’s co-op mode, and ended up getting stuck as a result. The screenshot shows the pair standing on the main player’s porch, literally fenced in by free-standing fence posts and a geode. With no alternate exit from the porch and no tools in their inventory to break the fence posts with, the two ended up being stuck, effectively softlocking the game.
Stardew Valley Players Share Softlock Solutions
Thankfully, the community is a positive and supportive one, and many fans immediately flooded in to provide methods of getting out. One of the simplest of these, assuming that a full day hadn’t already passed, would be to restart the game. This would put the players back in their beds without the blockages in place anymore. However, if that weren’t possible, players suggested using the items that the two did have available to them, namely the wood in the main player’s inventory. By crafting additional Wood Fence posts and a Gate, the players could potentially make an escape. Others suggested that simply waiting until 2 am and passing out on their Stardew Valley farm could work, as one of the players would likely be returned to their own cabin and could then help break down the obstacles once the new day began.
Thankfully, this softlock isn’t the end of the world, and while the player hasn’t reported back, they should be able to resolve this situation with minimal pain. That said, it’s also a good reminder for Stardew Valley players to always carry an axe, if only to prevent situations like these. In an absolute worst-case scenario, though, some fans joked that the fences would eventually decay after about a season’s time, so players could always choose to wait it out if nothing else works.
