SteelSeries Aerox 5 Wireless Gaming Mouse: Design and Specifications
Available only in black, the Aerox 5 is a lightweight wireless gaming mouse that’s a bit old at this point, but still carries a solid sensor and has an ambidextrous design. It is a perforated shell mouse, so there might be a few gamers who turn away from it because of how it feels in the hand, but this design helps keep the weight down and also makes the mouse look cool. The entire top surface, including part of the buttons, is covered with diamond-shaped perforations, but the sides are solid with a handful of extra buttons.
It is an ambidextrous mouse, so all types of grips will work well. On the left side, you will find four buttons with five customizable inputs, plus the profile button is located at the top.
Coming to the specifications, the Aerox 5 Wireless is powered by the TrueMove Air Sensor, which has been developed in partnership with PixArt and is capable of up to 18,000 DPI. This is not the highest in the industry, with some brands offering almost double that, but it is accurate enough for all competitive FPS games. It weighs only 74 grams, which again, isn’t the lightest, but is light enough for fast movements with minimal friction.

Being a wireless mouse, it connects over a 2.4GHz connection and the company calls it Quantum 2.0 technology. Additionally, it also has Bluetooth 5.0, so you can use it with your laptop or mobile devices. On a single charge, the Aerox 5 can last up to 180 hours, and with just a 15-minute charge, you can get 40 hours of playtime. Note that the lighting effects will affect battery life, especially if you have all three zones lit all the way up.
While the light shining through the perforation looks amazing, some users may be thinking about durability and dust ingress. Don’t worry, SteelSereis has thought of that and added an IP54-rated AquaBarrier that protects the internal circuitry from all types of environmental damage.
SteelSeries Aerox 5 Wireless Gaming Mouse: Price and Availability
A number of retailers are offering the Aerox 5 Wireless for $90 as part of their Black Friday sales, including SteelSeries themselves. It typically costs $140, so this is a pretty nice discount, making this excellent gaming mouse even better value.
As mentioned earlier, there is a wired version as well that’s going for $60. It is even lighter than the wireless version but, of course, lacks in the freedom of movement department.
