The students of UA’s Class 1-A take centre stage in the show’s story, fighting against Shigaraki Tomura and his band of powerful villains. From the likes of Bakugo Katsuki and Uraraka Ochako, Class 1-A is a cast of colourful characters with a heroic spirit and powerful Quirks to match.
This list contains spoilers for My Hero Academia.
20 Aoyama Yuuga
Shining Hero: Can’t Stop Twinkling
When we first meet Aoyama Yuuga, he is flamboyant and undeniably sparkly. He seems to love being the centre of attention, as seen with his showy Navel Laser Quirk and costume. There were many strange things Aoyama did, such as spying on Midoriya in the UA dorms, but it makes sense once it’s revealed that he was the UA traitor.
Aoyama bears lots of similarities to Midoriya, as both were born Quirkless. But while Midoriya luckily ran into All Might, Aoyama’s family took him to All For One instead. In exchange for his Quirk, Aoyama was forced to spy on his classmates and teachers for the villain. Although he sought to redeem himself after the Final War, his deception caused a lot of harm.
19 Mineta Minoru
Fresh-Picked Hero: Grape Juice
Mineta Minoru is academically talented, and comical, yet noted as the official class pervert. Alongside classmate Kaminari Denki, Mineta’s antics usually land him in trouble with the girls (and guys) of 1-A.
But when it comes to serious situations, Mineta can rise to the occasion. He’s able to think quickly in high-pressure situations, such as single-handedly restraining Midnight and pulling his teammate to the finish line. With the Quirk Pop-Off, he can use the sticky balls on his head to restrain his target. However, his perverted inclinations have moved him to the near bottom of this list.
18 Rikido Sato
Sweets Hero: Sugarman
A guy as sweet as his Quirk, Rikido Sato can increase his physical strength for a short period of time by consuming at least 10 grams of sugar. As a result of his Quirk, Sato is an excellent baker and confectioner, sharing his creations with his classmates.
He is dependable in battle but tends to rush into situations without assessing them first. His Quirk also leaves him exhausted and hardly able to function once used. However, Sato is brave and doesn’t hesitate to put himself on the line for his friends.
17 Mezo Shoji
Tentacle Hero: Tentacole
The tallest student of Class 1-A, Mezo Shoji is the definition of a gentle giant. He is composed and kind, and rarely ever panics or crumbles during stressful situations.

Class 1-A might have the main character, but there are other great students in My Hero Academia.
He has a Quirk called Dupli-Arms and can replicate additional limbs, which gives him greater strength and sharper senses. His calm temperament allows him to take stock of problems, and he is very observant of others. He also keeps a face mask on at all times to cover the scars on his face.
16 Mashirao Ojiro
Martial Arts Hero: Tailman
Although Ojiro’s Tail Quirk is not the showiest, he has learned to use his tail effectively against his opponents. As you can probably guess by his hero name, Ojiro is a trained and well-versed close-quarters combatant, using his powerful tail to overwhelm enemies with a barrage of attacks.
A serene, calm presence, Ojiro relentlessly practices his Quirk and martial arts. When asked, he readily imparts combat tips and is a good team player who works well with all his classmates.
15 Hagakure Toru
Stealth Hero: Invisible Girl
Cheerful and exuberant, Hagakure Toru has an Invisibility Quirk, which means a floating outfit is usually how you pinpoint her. Her Quirk naturally makes her the perfect fit for infiltration and stealth work, but she is also able to blind her opponents by refracting light and diverting laser attacks.
A naturally happy person, Toru works well with others, as seen during the Provisional Hero License Exam Arc. Although Toru’s appearance has been one of the enduring mysteries of the series, her face was finally revealed after Aoyama’s betrayal was exposed in Season 7.
14 Koda Koji
Petting Hero: Anima
A timid and wholesome person, Koda Koji is naturally quiet to the point where some of his classmates assume he is mute. His Quirk, Anivoice, ironically relies on him speaking to relay his commands to animals.
Despite having a chronic fear of insects, Koji overcame his shyness to get his classmate out of a tough spot. As the series goes on, we see Koji becoming more confident and verbally communicating with others rather than remaining silent.
13 Sero Hanta
Taping Hero: Cellophane
Sero Hanta is a chatty and personable guy and makes friends with just about everyone. He is not afraid to tease even fiery personalities like Bakugo, getting along and working well with him in the field and in class.
Agile and fast, Sero has a Tape Quirk, which allows him to shoot tape from his elbows. He can swing from place to place quickly, incapacitate his opponents and maintain fortifications with his durable tape.
12 Kaminari Denki
Stun Gun Hero: Chargebolt
A social butterfly and class clown, Kaminari Denki is both a friendly and flirtatious guy. He’s Mineta’s partner-in-crime, but doesn’t take things as far.

Although not academically talented, Kaminari is quite considerate and aware of his Quirk’s drawbacks. His Electrification Quirk is powerful, but if he goes all out, he risks hurting his allies and losing brain function. As the story progresses, he grows more skilled at channelling his Quirk to hit specific targets instead of letting it loose.
11 Kyoka Jiro
Hearing Hero: Earphone Jack
Practical and friendly, Kyoka Jiro’s Earphone Jack Quirk is perfect for both combat and espionage. Although she’s not a tank like Shoji or a powerhouse like Todoroki, Jiro learns to generate soundwaves to deal with multiple enemies at once.
Jiro came from a musical family and is a talented singer, capable of playing several instruments. She likes to poke fun at Kaminari Denki and is irritated by Mineta’s antics. However, she’s also shown to be quite insecure about her appearance.
10 Ashido Mina
Pinky
Bubbly and charismatic, Ashido Mina is an athletic girl who struggles with keeping her grades up. Armed with an Acid Quirk, Mina is not only able to manoeuvre by coating her feet with acid, but she also uses it as armour and to shield her allies.
An excellent dancer, Mina can build good relationships with all of her classmates due to her affable nature. She also loves to shop and gossip, with a particular interest in her classmates’ love lives.
9 Asui Tsuyu
Rainy Season Hero: Froppy
Analytical and observant, Asui Tsuyu is a pragmatic girl who’s not afraid to tell it how it is. She does not panic easily and maintains her composure through hero exams and real-life confrontations with Villains.
Due to her Frog Quirk, Tsuyu has the mannerisms of a frog and is an impeccable swimmer. She works well in damp environments, able to use her whip-like tongue to capture enemies and easily scale up the side of buildings. However, she’s vulnerable to the cold and hibernates as a result.
8 Tokoyami Fumikage
Jet-Black Hero: Tsukuyomi
One of the coolest Quirks in the class, Tokoyami is a dignified and calm presence who tends to spout poetic lines. As someone who fully embraces the darkness, Tokoyami has a fondness for the mystical and supernatural. Although he largely keeps to himself, he manages to form bonds with his classmates.
He has a Dark Shadow Quirk, a sentient shadow-like being that has its own personality. Dark Shadow listens to commands, but when in complete darkness or emotional distress, Tokoyami has trouble gaining control. As time progresses, Tokoyami’s handle on Dark Shadow has improved massively.
7 Yaoyorozu Momo
Everything Hero: Creati
Yaoyorozu Momo is a kind, caring and supportive student with a generous heart. As a member of the supremely wealthy Yaoyorozu family, Momo is used to luxuries but is never snobbish. Although sensible and calm, Momo struggles with insecurities over her abilities and tends to overthink situations.

6 Kirishima Eijiro
Sturdy Hero: Red Riot
An ever-optimistic and energetic guy, Kirishima Eijiro has a talent for keeping up morale among his classmates. His friendly and warm nature makes him mesh well with others, even growing close to brash characters like Bakugo. However, Kirishima was not always so outgoing and upbeat. He was initially quite timid and insecure over his Quirk before coming to UA.
He became a huge fan of an old hero, Crimson Riot, and reinvented himself as a result. Kirishima is fond of anything ‘manly’ and likes to work out to keep himself in shape for hero work. His Hardening Quirk makes him one of his classmates’ go-to tanks, making his skin impenetrable to projectiles and any manner of attack.
5 Iida Tenya
Turbo Hero: Ingenium
Iida Tenya is known to be rigid and a stickler for the rules. Despite this, he has a good heart and is adamant about always doing the right thing. As part of a hero family, Tenya looks up to his brother, who is a hero known as Ingenium. After the latter’s life-changing injury, Tenya underwent a change and is determined to continue his brother’s legacy as the new Ingenium.
Like most of his family members, Tenya has an Engine Quirk, which makes him faster than most of his classmates. He uses his speed to take opponents by surprise and is no slouch when it comes to close combat.
4 Uraraka Ochako
Uravity
Uraraka Ochako is a sweet and bubbly girl, whose purpose for pursuing hero work was to support her struggling family. She becomes close friends with Iida and Midoriya, eventually growing feelings for the latter.
Ochako has a Zero Gravity Quirk, allowing her to float objects, people and herself. Despite her sweet nature, Ochako possesses a steely grit and determination, improving her fighting skills after her intense fight against Bakugo. She is also compassionate, even able to sympathise with villains like Himiko Toga.
3 Bakugo Katsuki
Great Explosion Murder God: Dynamight
One of the most complex characters in the series, we didn’t get the most positive of introductions to Bakugo Katsuki. Brash, loud and arrogant, Bakugo has an Explosion Quirk and possesses an analytical mind that helps him figure out the strengths and drawbacks of his power.

2 Todoroki Shoto
Shoto
Todoroki Shoto has a powerful Half-Cold Half-Hot Quirk and came from a wealthy family, but he did not have the happiest start in life. Although he was everything his father, Endeavour, wanted, Shoto faced abuse and emotional neglect from him and had a strained relationship with his mother and siblings.
Despite his childhood troubles, Shoto is ultimately a good-hearted person. As a result of his sheltered childhood, Shoto comes across as awkward and reserved, and most jokes he takes too literally. He has a strong sense of justice and due to his father’s intensive training, is miles ahead of his peers in combat.
1 Midoriya Izuku
Deku
The main protagonist of the series, Midoriya Izuku was once Quirkless, with his dreams of becoming a Hero nothing but a fantasy. This didn’t stop him from having a selfless, heroic spirit, however, which resulted in All Might bequeathing him One For All.
Midoriya has a sharp, observant eye and is obsessed with Quirks; he keeps dozens of notebooks filled with analysis of peoples’ Quirks. Kind and always desiring to help, Midoriya doesn’t hesitate to risk his life to protect his friends and even strangers from harm. With the final season of My Hero Academia upcoming, it is up to the latest bearer of One For All to definitively defeat All For One and Shigaraki Tomura for good.
