Light of Motiram is Tencent’s Horizon-inspired open-world survival game coming to Mobile, PC, and Console

Tencent has announced a new open-world survival title Light of Motiram. Set to arrive for Mobile on Android and iOS, PC, and PS5 platforms, a trailer showcased shows that Light of Motiram will be filled with survival against monsters and crafting elements, something we have seen in the Horizon series of games.

Explore a futuristic land as you fight for survival in Light of Motiram

Set in a post-apocalyptic world, Light of Motiram tells a story of a world set in 2068 AD replaced by a vast wilderness filled with giant mechanical beasts called Mechanimals. Humanity is rebuilding from scratch, living in a new primitive era where survival is tough. Hence, the game lets you explore stunning landscapes, from tropical forests to deserts and snowy mountains of a mysterious world called MOTIRAM.

Survival is at the heart of the game. You’ll face extreme weather, dangerous creatures, and constant challenges. To thrive, you must make the most of your surroundings, fight bosses, and learn to adapt. Building plays a big role too. You can design anything from strong shelters to impressive forts, while also teaming up with friends to hunt, gather resources, and build together.

As per the description, combat brings dodge, block, and counterattack elements, which you can team up with your customizable Mechanimal companions to gain an edge. With over 100 unique Mechanimals to tame, you can train and customize them for battle or resource gathering.

What tweaked my interest even further is that there is a desi (Indian) inspiration here. The Indian elements in the game can be easily seen, with the name Motiram is an Indian name that translates to “deep thinker”. We also have Mechanimal names such as Hanuman and Agni already. However, I’m not sure about the “Indian” inspiration for the gameplay yet.

Light of Motiram risks being seen as a copy of Horizon rather than just inspired by it

Now, let me talk about the comparison here. Like many other players, I’ve also noticed an easy comparison with Horizon, but as you look into the details closely, the “inspiration” seems to be more of a copy now. There are a few certain aspects of the game that made me think that way. When you get the first look at the cover itself, you’ll get the feeling of the logo being seen somewhere.

If you have seen Horizon’s logo, it is more easy to understand how similar the font is. Second, the gameplay and the game world elements of the words look similar again. Having a female protagonist to kick things off, where she again looks the same as the one in Horizon doesn’t help the case.

The combat also has a Monster Hunter feel, although I might be in the wrong here. Have a look at the trailer yourself and share your thoughts. There are some original gameplay elements though, so it is not that the game is a complete ripoff.

Here’s hoping it doesn’t meet the same fate as the Palworld-inspired Miraibo GO, which was launched just a month ago in October 2024 before its shutdown after a copyright strike. Light of Motiram will be launching across multiple platforms including mobile, so keep an eye on the official website for details regarding the tests, registrations, and launch.
