Hunter X Hunter’s current arc, the Succession War arc, will be speeding up as shocking events unfold one after another. The declaration of Martial Law changed everything, allowing Prince Benjamin to take over.

The death of more characters is to be expected. Among all that chaos, Morena plans to finish her card game with Borksen in hopes of recruiting her into her ranks.

The Events That Lead To A Martial Law Declared

At the end of HxH 408, a major event happened. Martial Law was declared. Why or how it was declared remains a mystery for now, but Togashi will soon reveal what happened to fans, probably in HxH 409. Togashi will probably rewind time, and showcase what was happening in other places on the Black Whale during the time Morena and Borksen were playing their card game. During this backtrack in the story, events that lead to the declaration of Martial Law will unfold.

There are many possibilities when it comes to what caused this, a big possibility being due to Halkenburg’s actions. Halkenburg is currently in Might’s body. However, if Benjamin caught up to his plan, or if Halkenburg tried to kill Benjamin and failed, it could definitely lead the latter to declare Martial Law and take control of the situation. Benjamin’s Nen Beast hasn’t shown its abilities yet, and that could be the reason why Halkenburg would fail.

Another possibility that could have led to Martial Law is the death of one of the Princes, specifically, one who acts as a benefactor to a Mafia family. The obvious Prince who would die in this situation is Luzurus, as we have seen a group of characters plan his death already. Melody, Beast Kacho, and Kaiser were planning to kill him to save Fugetsu, and their plan might’ve reached its goal with his death.

Whatever happened that could’ve led to Martial Law, and now that it is declared, things will heat up all over the Black Whale. The deaths of more Princes would be imminent as Benjamin takes control and more chaos erupts all over. The mafia families and the Phantom Troupe could get very much involved in everything going on.

Chrollo Plans To Steal a Kakin Treasure

Chrollo Lucilfer will be a major character in this Succession War arc of HxH. He was seen a few chapters ago, revealing his plans to readers. Chrollo is on the hunt for the Kakin National treasures. If he manages to steal them, he will be able to evolve his Skill Hunter ability. If he evolves Skill Hunter, he can steal a powerful and rare ability, which he will use to kill Hisoka for good.

It’s very possible that in HxH 409, Chrollo has already gotten closer to one of the treasures, if not already stolen it. If that is what happened, it could also explain the declaration of Martial Law seen at the end of HxH 408. The theft of a national treasure would definitely be a big deal, and warrant a reaction of that degree.

If Chrollo manages to find the treasures, he will have to escape Kakin forces, or defeat them. After that, his main and real goal will emerge, and that is stealing a powerful Nen ability. Who he will steal it from is not yet known, but whatever that ability is, fans know that it will be quite a powerful one, making it worth the effort. Of course, in due time, he will take on Hisoka with ample preparation.

Until then, however, Hisoka will probably cause more heartache to the Phantom Troupe. He is currently followed by Bonolenov, and could very well notice the latter and kill him. Bonolenov will not be the only Spider Hisoka kills, but perhaps the first one fans will see him target on the Black Whale.

Morena’s Card Game Concludes In HxH Chapter 409

Borksen Could Win The Game

Morena is quite an interesting character in HxH. The last two chapters, HxH 407 and HxH 408, were pretty major for her. After kidnapping Borksen, she forced her into playing a card game that would determine her fate. Borksen could either die, have to join Morena, or possibly void the game. It all depends on what card she is left with at the end.

Right now, with the events readers were left with at the end of HxH 408, Borksen has two cards left, the No card, which would sign her death, or the R card, which would allow her to restore any card from the graveyard, including the X card, which would save her life and allow her to leave the place. What Borksen will pick in HxH 409 will mostly be up to her luck, unless Morena is currently cheating in some way.

Based on how the game is going, it’s possible that Borksen will win if Togashi wants her to stay alive. If Borksen is left with the R card, it gives her the option to restore any card she already discarded, and since Borksen wants to leave this area and not join Morena, her most likely pick will be the X card. The X card nullifies the entire game. It’s unlikely Borksen has any intention of joining Morena. Thus, she will not bring back a card such as the Yes card, for example, unless Morena can somewhat convince her to.

Borksen will probably ask for an explanation of what will happen if she picks the Yes card by choosing Morena’s Yes card. What Morena says could be quite tempting, especially when it comes to what role she wants Borksen to fill in the Heil-Ly.

It’s hard to expect exactly what Togashi is planning with Morena and Borksen, but there’s also a chance that two members of the Phantom Troupe interrupt them, those being Feitan and Phinks, who are currently on their way to the Heil-Ly hideout, as seen in previous chapters. Feitan and Phinks are following the transmitter left behind by Hinrigh in the Heil-Ly hideout. If they manage to get there before a member of the Heil-Ly notices its presence, then they will be successful.

The main issue is that they can’t attack Morena or her pawns directly, and instead, they can only act in self-defense. Fans know that this is one thing that will prove to be complicated. They could be the reason that Borksen makes it out alive and is able to tell the information she has received from Morena to her fellow soldiers. This information could be damaging to Morena and her cause.
