How To Get To The Mountain Caves In Luma Island

Even with some things restored, your job of repairing the town post-earthquake isn’t done yet in Luma Island. There’s still a long way to go and the next thing on the list to be repaired is the Cable Car, as not only is the wiring ruined, but the cable’s been snapped, and the car itself is damaged.

It’s still a long way to go with the town’s repairs, and next on the list is taking care of the lamp posts.

It’s in no shape to take anyone anywhere, but if you want to repair the town’s lighthouse and make it safe for ships to dock in its port again, you’ll need materials from the Mountain. There’s no way you’re climbing up to it on your own, so it’s time to repair the Cable Car.

How To Repair The Cable Car

Before you can get to the Mountains, you’ll need to repair the Cable Car after it’s broken by the earthquake that occurred on day five, and it needs six different materials to repair it, two of which are specialty ingredients:

  • Iron Bars.
  • Silk Ropes.
  • Forest Stone Blocks.
  • Forest Resin.
  • Cable For A Cable Car.
  • Cogwheel.

Some
materials like Iron Ore
and Forest Wood can be
purchased from the Carpenter’s Shop and the Blacksmith’s Shop
once you’ve obtained them.

You can get most of the materials from the Forest, but with the Cable For A Cable Car and the Cogwheel, you’ll need to repair the General Store and visit a specific location in the Forest that requires you to do quite a bit of exploring.

Fiber can be obtained by refining Reeds at a Simple Workbench, and Reeds can be found around any lake or river.

Forest Stone Block x25

Forest Stone can be found by breaking Forest Rocks at any location in the Forest.

How To Get The Cable For A Cable Car

Player character shopping at the General Store and purchasing a Cable For A Cable Car in Luma Island.

For the Cable For A Cable Car material, you’ll need to fix another victim of the earthquake: the General Store. It’s located at the northwestern end of town, down the street from the Town Hall, and it has two stages of repairs to do.

Speak to Sophia outside her shop to pick up the quest to unlock the process, and the first stage only needs five Fiber and five Forest Planks to fix.

  • You can get the Reeds needed from around any lake or river, and the Forest Wood Logs from any trees in the Forest, then use the Simple Workbench and Sawmill to refine them.

The second stage of the repair is going to need four materials this time: Forest Stone Blocks, Forest Planks, Iron Bars, and Glass.

Forest Plank x5

Bring everything back to the General Store and interact with it to add the materials, and it’ll be completely fixed. This unlocks the General Store, which sells a variety of handy materials such as Coal and Glass, as well as the Cable For A Cable Car for 20,000 Gold.

Where To Find The Cogwheel

Menu with quests on the left and a map of the Forest on the right with an orange star edited onto the left side in Luma Island.

The Cogwheel is located in the Forest, which you’ll need to repair the bridge in town to reach. It’s located at the northeastern corner of the area, but to get there, you’ll need to open up the path between both sections of the forest.

Head to the left edge of the lake located on the western side of the Forest, and follow the path along the water into the Lost Forest Cave at the end of the rock wall.

This special zone has some regular mining nodes like Iron Ore, but it’s much shorter and more contained than the regular Lost Forest Caves you mine in.

Follow the mostly lit path through to the exit, and you’ll end up on the eastern side of the Forest that you couldn’t get to previously.

Make sure to take the path around the lake back to the west once you’re on the other side and
knock over the tree log so you can connect the two areas permanently
.

Now head towards the east on the main path, passing by the new Leech Nest enemies, until you reach a muddy-looking area with rocks sitting in spots throughout it.

This area is full of quicksand, and you’ll sink to the bottom and die if you stand or walk through it for too long. Use the rocks and floating wood platforms to cross, take the left path to the far side of the area, then keep heading east until you reach the Forest Shrine.

If you
go through the Hidden Forest Cave next to where the left path drops you off
, you can open up a shortcut to the western side of the island.

Take the path going northeast, and avoid the new Toxic Mushroom enemies’ AOE damage clouds. The path will bring you to the side of a cliff at the edge of the map that you’ll need to climb down.

Once you’re on the beach, you’ll find a small island connected by a gravel path off the coast just down from the slope, and the special Cogwheel you need is sitting in the center of it.

Bring it and the rest of the materials back to the Broken Cable Car, interact with it to add them to the construction materials, and you’ll be able to go to the Mountains as soon as the repair is complete.

How To Reach The Mountain Caves

Player character mining Iron Ore at an unfinished camp outside the Mountain Caves in Luma Island.

Ride the Cable Car up to the Mountains, and you already won’t be too far from the Frozen Mountain Cave. Follow the path to the north, and once it splits, head to the left, and you’ll find a half-built campsite in front of the cave entrance.

There’s a Sawmill, Kiln, Ore Smelter, and Simple Workbench you can complete, but you’ll need Mountain-based materials found nearby to do so, and a few pieces of Moonstone and Iron Ore sitting outside that you’ll want to grab.

Inside the Frozen Mountain Cave, you’ll find Charcoal and a bit of Iron Ore, but the main ore type you’ll find is Moonstone Ore. You’ll also find a new type of rubble, Gold Rubble, and three new gems: Fluorite, Azurite, and Uvarovite.

Another variant of spider will also show up as an enemy, the Arctic Spider, and these caves introduce a new mechanic.

While rare, some Mountain Boulders have a chance to explode a few seconds after being hit, and they’ll destroy nearby rocks and ores in a small radius around them.

Exploding Mountain Boulders are always
medium-sized and have a more rounded shape
than usual compared to others.
