Hazard Wasn't The Only Star of His Overwatch 2 Reveal Cinematic

The arrival of Overwatch 2’s newest hero, Hazard, has shaken up both the game and its fan base in recent days. However, some fans seem to be more interested in something else that the Overwatch 2 character’s trailer places a small spotlight on.

Overwatch 2 will soon bring its 42nd playable hero to the game when Hazard arrives on December 10. After Easter eggs and speculation, fans were finally treated to a cinematic reveal trailer for Hazard just a few days ago. These trailers have always been a highlight of the Overwatch series, offering players a look into the surrounding world and how the characters fit into it. The Hazard trailer joins the character and members of his team in the midst of a heist, where Hazard must make a difficult decision in order to make it out alive. While this spotlight gives great insight into the type of person that Hazard is, some fans are just as interested in the other members of his crew as they are in the character meant to be in the spotlight.

Overwatch 2 has confirmed its 42nd hero, Hazard, in a recently released hero trailer and this is what tank players may want to know about him.

Could Hazard Bring His Friends to Overwatch 2 in the Future?

Most of the heroes in Overwatch 2 have compelling backstories, and Hazard is no different. Details of Hazard’s history were recently revealed in an Overwatch 2 comic which depicted his tragic accident while he was in the armed services, and how his resultant loss of faith in society led him to join up with the Phreaks, a punk-styled rebel group of often-violent protesters. The comic reveals the names of each member of the Phreaks, who all come with unique designs and roles in the group. Boomslang and Susannah are the two who join Hazard in his reveal trailer, but they’re not the only Phreaks that players have become drawn to.

Members of the Phreaks include:

  • Revel: Security for the group
  • Touch-Up: A scientist who provides mods to cybernetics
  • Boomslang: Weapons specialist
  • Jackdaw: Getaway driver and wildcard
  • Susannah: Cybernetic artist and Hacker
  • Hazard: Young up-start with muscle and firepower

As Overwatch 2 continues to add new characters, the ranks of the Phreaks might be the perfect new group for Blizzard to mine for ideas. Boomslang is depicted as a weapons specialist, providing cover fire for Hazard during their heist. If made playable, she could bring new weapon types to the table, making her an excellent candidate for a new offensive damage hero. Likewise, Susannah is shown hacking into the computer system while staying hidden from fire. She could provide an interesting support hacker, especially when compared to Sombra’s more aggressive style of hacking. With Hazard’s powerful Overwatch 2 kit and role as a tank, the three could complement each other in gameplay to be a powerful crew, just like in the comic.

Overwatch 2 is Built for Growth

Adding a unified group designed to work well together would be new for Overwatch 2, but it is a game that thrives on trying new things. With new heroes added every other season, the game is constantly changing, often in minor ways, but sometimes more visibly as well. Every new power and ability added needs to be balanced, so the development team is used to altering what players are used to in order to create a better experience overall. There are even rumors that Overwatch 2 might be changing up its maps in the future, again showing that Blizzard isn’t afraid to take chances with this property.

With the Phreaks introduced as the latest faction in the world of Overwatch 2, it adds a whole new place for players and developers to explore, both in terms of story and gameplay. Fans are clearly interested in the crew and their stylized appearance, although it’s worth noting that Hazard’s design underwent changes several times throughout development. These characters are still in the early stages, and if they ever make the jump to playable characters, they will likely need to be changed in order to fit into the game. So, while there is a chance that the Phreaks might make more frequent appearances in the Overwatch 2 cast, fans might not want to get overly attached to the way they look and feel now, as change is always possible.
