Games We Wish Were Crossplay

Multiplayer games are a great way to connect with friends, especially if you don’t live near each other. While many games are available on various consoles, not all of them are cross-platform. That means a game you play on PlayStation may not be compatible with your friend’s version on PC.

Crossplay makes multiplayer games available to a wider range of players, so your squad can team up from all sorts of platforms. The accessibility of crossplay titles makes fans wonder why some multiplayer games lack that feature. Here are some video games we wish were available for crossplay.

1 Injustice 2

The online multiplayer option for Injustice 2 may not be as popular as it used to be, but it’s still fun for friends to connect when they feel like fighting. The bad news is you can’t connect unless you are both playing on the same console.

If you’re an enthusiast of the game, you can settle for playing with friends on split screen or connect with someone on the same platform as you.

2 Dark Souls 3

Dark Souls 3 is a game you can play solo or with others, using summoning signs to lay a co-op marker. This is especially helpful for big boss fights or difficult locations. The more allies you have, the better your chances of survival.

While the game is available on various platforms, there is no crossplay feature, which is sad when you’re on Playstation and your buddy is on Xbox.

3 Dying Light 2

In Dying Light 2, you can use the multiplayer component to invite your friend to play alongside you once you progress a bit into the campaign. After the Markers of Plague quest, you can unlock the feature and invite friends to battle zombies alongside you.

Your friends can only join you, however, if you’re playing on the same platform. While adding friends to your party is fun, you may have to play solo if you’re the only one on your particular console.

4 Gotham Knights

The multiplayer feature in Gotham Knights isn’t unlockable right away, but after a short tutorial mission, you can invite your friends to join your adventures through Gotham City. You can also connect with strangers, if you wish.

The game doesn’t support crossplay, however, so you can only team up with heroes on your same platform. Despite how great it could be, the developers say there’s no plan to add cross-platform features.

5 It Takes Two

As the name implies, It Takes Two was designed for multiplayer. There is no solo option. This cooperative game can either be played split screen or through online play as you both use various skills to survive as dolls in a treacherous world.

It Takes Two is cross-generation but not cross-platform. For a game that was designed with just co-op in mind, it’s strange there is no crossplay option.

6 Red Dead Online

Red Dead Online was developed as a multiplayer spinoff of Red Dead Redemption 2. The action/adventure game lets you explore the Wild West either on your own or with your friends. The live-service world is ongoing and still experiencing changes.

Red Dead Online still doesn’t have a crossplay option, and there are no plans to add the feature. You have to stick to adventuring with players on the same platform.

7 Stardew Valley

One of the coziest games out there, Stardew Valley has a multiplayer option to let you visit other farms, as long as the owner is online. You stop by as a “farmhand” and even get your own cabin on the property as you fish, forage, and farm with your friends.

Unfortunately, there is no cross-platform multiplayer and no plans to add the feature. If you play on the Switch, you’ll never be able to visit a farm on Xbox.

8 Monster Hunter: World

Monster Hunter: World is the fifth in the series and introduced an online component to the game. All of the quests in Monster Hunter: World are available to play in multiplayer mode. While you can go through the game solo, it’s more fun taking down giant monsters with friends.

While the game is easier when you’re with a squad, you may not have all your friends joining in if they’re on different consoles. Fans would love a crossplay feature, if the developers ever get around to adding it.

9 Elden Ring

While Elden Ring is played solo, there are ways to add your friends to the story, though they can’t stick around for the entire game. Co-op has some limitations and a complicated setup, but your buddies can join you to take down the big bosses.

Fighting as a phantom player, you can assist the host with certain tasks, but only if they’re on the same platform as you. To the dismay of many fans, there is no cross-platform play.

10 Baldur’s Gate 3

While you can complete Baldur’s Gate 3 solo, as a Dungeons and Dragons-inspired game, it’s fun to add your friends to your party. Unlike other games where you drop in and out, you fully play the campaign together, all in the same save slot.

As co-op is a big part of the game, fans have been asking for crossplay. According to the developers, it’s a feature they plan to add in the future, so this is one game on the list we may actually achieve.
