Key Takeaways
- Grinding in the early game is limited, the surfboard is crucial for new areas, and Coward’s Cloak boosts EXP for inactive Tems.
- Dabmis’ Rest features rare Tems and is a leveling spot after receiving Coward’s Cloak.
- Shrines like Earth, Digital, & Melee are efficient for leveling, and require type-challenge battles.
The Pokemon-like monster taming RPGTemTem has managed to maintain a steady player base since its 2020 PC release, bolstered by its subsequent release to all other major platforms. While November 2024’s 1.8 patch was the final major update for the game, that means it’s now in a better place than ever for new players who want to jump in.
For those who are just discovering the game, or players who want to get an edge on leveling in the end game, there are plenty of places and methods for efficiently leveling up Tems. These spots all offer either the best EXP return for their respective levels, or hold items that will help with leveling up multiple Tems.

9 Perilous Archeology (Side Quest)
Finding The Coward’s Cloak
There aren’t many good opportunities to grind in the early game of TemTem, so it’s best for players to focus on getting the Surfboard by beating the Dojo leader in Arissola, Sophia. This will open up new areas for the player to access, including the location of the Coward’s Cloak.
This item lets the equipping TemTem earn EXP when not in the active party, so it’s great for keeping backup Tems leveled up. To find it, go to the bottom of the Windward Fort and use the Surfboard to traverse the water over to the Sillao River to the East. Speak to the archaeologists there to trigger a battle.
Winning the battle gets players the Perilous Archeology side quest. Next, head back through the bottom of Windward Fort and out the other side. Fight the enemies along the path, and at the end is the chest containing the Coward’s Cloak.
8 Dabmis’ Rest
Early Rare Farm
With the Coward’s Cloak obtained, one of the best places to pick up a couple of rarer Tems and level up in Deniz is also now accessible with the Surfboard. This secluded lake will let players catch Kalazu and the rare Oceara, which will be useful going forward. It’s not a bad early spot for EXP, either.
To get there, surf north from Brical de Mar to the Aguamarina Caves. Find the stairs to the Crystal Lake at the northwest end of the caves, then leave the next room to the south to get to Dabmis Rest. Keeping the Coward’s Cloak on inactive Tems while farming here will let players boost some alternative combat options early.
7 Crystal Shrine
Crystal Type Challenge
Once players have access to them, the shrines are the best places to earn EXP in TemTem. That’s because they’re full of high-level, evolved Tems to capture and fight. Each one requires players to complete a relevant type-challenge first though. In this case, that means players will need a full party of crystal type Tems to take on the trainers outside and access the shrine.

These hidden details and secrets are ones that most Temtem players have likely never even noticed.
All players need to do is farm a few of the nearby Bunbuns, as the fight can be beaten easily enough with a full team of them. Getting there in the first place will require players to progress the story in Tucma until they get the Rock-Climbing Hook (Gravitonic Piolet), then head to the western part of the island to meet Valentina and pick up the Cultist Hunt quest. This quest leads to the shrine.
6 Fire Shrine
Shrines Offer High EXP Yield
The next shrine players can access, the Fire shrine, is located at the Anak Volcano. However, players will need to have progressed the story far enough to get the Crystal Skates to go back and access it. Like the previous shrine, this is the next best place to farm EXP for now.
As a bonus, players can unlock a new evolution for Tuwai here with fire elemental properties. This is possible at all the shrines, with each having a corresponding elemental evolution. So, keep this in mind when visiting shrines for leveling.
5 Water Shrine
Deniz Grind Spot
The Water Shrine is back on Deniz, but players won’t be able to access it until much later on in the story. In the area in the Aguamarina caves, Dabmis’ Rest, there is a wall that is now climbable with the Gravitonic Piolet. (This is the same area where players can catch the Oceara earlier in the game.)
Climb up there with a full team of water-type Tems to take on the battles required to unlock the shrine. Once this is done, there are more leveling opportunities from the high level Tems there.
4 Travel Writer (Side Quest)
Quest For The Coward’s Blanket
Later in the game, once the player has at least gotten to Arbury, there is another side quest reward that players will want to pick up to help with leveling their Tems. The Coward’s Blanket is like an upgraded version of the Coward’s Cloak, allowing the player to share EXP among all their inactive Tems instead of just one.
After completing the Perilous Archeology quest, speak to Tarlae in Nanga (Omninesia) to start this questline. She’ll ask the player to complete six tasks. They’re fairly simple, as all players need to do is explore the games’ different islands and go back to Tarlae in Omninesia. Once players have all six, the last of which is Arbury, she’ll give the player the Coward’s Blanket as a reward.
3 Earth Shrine
Six Times The EXP
The Earth Shrine is one of the most popular leveling spots in TemTem, prior to the endgame, because players can get six times the regular experience gains from battling there. After completing the main story on Kisiwa island, find the Earth Shrine there by heading to Chini Grotto.

With several Temtem for players to catch, the Earth-type seems to be the most effective, with these Earth-types creatures being the best so far
Once there, find the completely dark room in Chini Grotto, and navigate to its eastern exit to find the Earth Shrine. Pack a team of Earth type Tems for the first visit, as there’s a type-challenge series of battles here like the other shrines. Once that’s done, players can fight freely there to level, with minimum level 67 Tems to battle and capture.
2 Digital Shrine
The Prime Pre-Endgame EXP Farm
The Digital Shrine is much like the other shrines, but it has the highest level Tems (level 72) prior to the endgame area. To access the Digital Shrine, players will first need to complete the Angry Kami side quest, available from Yoko in Neoedo town on Cipanku.
Bringing back the desired item for Yoko will give players access to the shrine area, but the player will still need to assemble a team of digital-type Tems to take on the battles that unlock the shrine. Once that’s done, this is the most efficient EXP gain area for players that want to level up before beating the main story.
1 Melee Shrine
Level 100 Endgame Grind Spot
The melee shrine is the highest level shrine in the game, and a great place for grinding out Tems up to level 100. The only catch is that players need to beat the story campaign before they can access it.
Once players have beaten the story, the melee shrine can be found in the northwest of Arbury, in an area called Chieftain’s Barrow. Players will need a team of melee-type Tems to beat the type-challenge battles in front of the shrine to unlock it.
One thing to remember with these locations is that, while they’re the most efficient spots for leveling, different spots will level different TV stats due to the types of Tems players are fighting. That means that if players are concerned with raising certain stats as opposed to general leveling, then extra attention should be paid to exactly which farm is best to use.
