The Veilguard Artbook Explains Why Solas Is Bald

The Veilguard Fans Are Upset That Nobody Hates Elves

The Dragon Age universe holds a lot of mysteries. Like how did the Black City become blackened? Who exactly is the Architect? And do Rook’s companions really like him? While we may never get the answers to some of these questions, they don’t really keep us awake at night. However, there is one question that may actually have fans begging for answers.

I Hate How Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s Endings Are Implemented

Why does getting the best ending rely less on my decisions and more on how long I’ve played?

How does Solas, an all-powerful being that has defeated literal gods, suffer from hair loss? We know that he once used to have hair, back in his revolution days, but how did it all go away, especially if he’s so powerful? Is it a style choice? Why won’t BioWare answer my emails!? It turns out that the answer lies in the Dragon Age: The Veilguard artbook.

We Now Know Why Solas Is Bald

Spotted by Beautifulfeary on Reddit, The Art of Dragon Age: The Veilguard reveals a lot of tidbits about the game’s development process, concept art, and overall lore of the series, but mostly of the latest installment. It turns out BioWare revealed the answer to one of the biggest Dragon Age’s biggest mysteries in one corner of a page of the book.

“With Solas, we established that hair loss would be the only outward indication of an ancient elf’s age,” said an excerpt below a sketch of Solas’ shining dome. Mystery solved. Solas is bald because he is very, very old. Not because leading a revolution is stressful or because the guilt of imprisoning his own kind was eating away at him.

However, that doesn’t explain why Elgar’nan came out with a head full of hair at the beginning of The Veilguerd. The excerpt went on to explain that, get this, “Elgar wears a wig attached to his crown.” If only we knew this sooner. Instead of waging all-out war on Elgar’nan, Rook could have just made fun of his silly little wig. The elven god of vengeance and the sun doesn’t sound too scary when you know he’s wearing a toupee.

Fans in the comments section had a field day with this one. “Solas and all the elves at Mythal’s temple were bald so I assumed it was like an age related thing then out pops Elgar’nan with a full head of hair and I did not know what to make of it,” said one comment. “Elgar’nan wearing a wig is also f***ing hilarious.”

It seems with this we’ve also solved the mystery of the Highever Weave shortage on Thedas. Turns out it was all on Elgar’nan head.
